A massive magic circle appeared in the sky. It seems that grand-scale magic functions differently; when activated, a supplementary magic circle materializes in the air.
The Grand Fire Magic, Inferno, is a spell designed to incinerate everything within a designated range. Though not visually extravagant, it can envelop the entire body of that colossal calamity, burning everything within its scope to ashes. However...
"Even grand magic didn’t work..."
Despite the surrounding vegetation turning to charcoal, the calamity at the center remained completely unharmed. Even the moss and vines on its shell hadn’t burned—this was undeniably shocking.
It seems that the flames of the grand magic were nullified by the calamity’s ability just before reaching it. Yeah, this is unwinnable. No wonder even grand mage couldn’t defeat it.
A wave of exhaustion suddenly overwhelmed me. Is this the backlash of using such a powerful spell? It felt like the fatigue after a full-speed sprint.
Even though I inherited the power of the grand mage, it seems that grand-scale magic consumes an extraordinary amount of mana. If I cast a few more of these, I might collapse from mana exhaustion.
As for other possibilities... Could I keep burning its head continuously until it suffocates? No, I’m not even sure if it breathes.
"This is tough..."
The calamity began moving forward again. It seems even grand-scale magic could only delay it for a few minutes. Since it doesn’t retaliate, should we just accept it as a natural disaster and give up?
I’ll wait for some time to recover my stamina and then try a grand spell of another element.
"Even though I doubt it’ll work, I might as well test out some physical attacks."
Judging by Drain’s failed strike earlier, I don’t have high hopes. But maybe, just maybe, the grand magic I used earlier fully exhausted its defensive abilities or something.
"Where did I put it...?"
After witnessing Drain’s sword shatter against it, I couldn’t bring myself to use my main sword. There’s a high chance it would break too.
"Ah, there it is."
I retrieved a different sword created by the grand mage from my storage magic. I also cast hardening magic and physical enhancement magic on myself. Let’s try aiming for its weakest-looking spot, like its eye.
"...Wait a second. Could this work?"
"Alright, I’m ready."
Using my detection skill, I confirmed there were no people or animals nearby. I also put some distance between myself and the calamity.
In my hand was a switch shaped like a tooth. Yes, this switch belonged to a bomb I had recovered from a past terrorist incident. Currently, three of those bombs, along with a drum of industrial waste I salvaged from a factory explosion, were inside the calamity’s stomach.
I had stored them away with storage magic, unsure what to do with them. I remembered their existence earlier when retrieving a weapon. This might work since it isn’t magic and could bypass the calamity’s defenses.
The calamity occasionally swallowed large trees whole as it moved through the forest. During one of those moments, I shoved the bombs and drum inside its stomach.
Apparently, there were brave souls who attempted to defeat it by entering its stomach, but they were unable to escape and were digested alive. Poor guys.
Although the idea isn’t bad, no one could use magic inside its stomach. Even highly potent poisons were ineffective.
But bombs are not magic. And the industrial waste releases toxic gas when burned—something the factory workers warned me about. A chemical bomb and poisonous gas from another world... This might just work.
"If this doesn’t work, then nothing will. Please let this work!!"
Click.
BOOOOM!
A thunderous explosion erupted from inside the calamity’s stomach.
However, the massive, mountain-like calamity remained standing. The explosion wasn’t enough to obliterate it from the inside.
"It didn’t work...?"
Honestly, I thought this would do the trick. Those bombs had enough power to blow up a train station, so I expected them to succeed.
"...Huh?"
On closer inspection, the calamity, which had been moving forward even slightly, had now completely stopped. Could it have taken some damage?
Cautiously, I approached the calamity. Don’t you dare try to play dead and suddenly attack me.
"This is..."
The calamity remained intact despite the internal explosion. However, its previously steady forward march had ceased. Its eyes, which once glimmered with life, now appeared dull and lifeless. Small fragments of its flesh and blood were scattered nearby.
Black smoke rose ominously from its half-open mouth. Could this be the toxic gas released by the burning industrial waste?
The chemical poison might bypass status immunity skills or healing magic, but I must be careful not to inhale it myself.
"It’s dead... right?"
From what I could see, it seemed dead. But with the gas pouring out of its mouth, I couldn’t confirm it up close. If it’s truly dead, storage magic should work.
I touched the calamity’s body from behind and activated storage magic.
Poof.
The enormous calamity vanished completely. Storage magic cannot contain living beings, so this confirmed its death.
It seems the bombs, or perhaps the poisonous gas from the industrial waste, managed to kill the calamity.
At the same time, I noticed my storage space, which never seemed close to full even after storing wyverns and dragons, was now about 70% occupied. Honestly, it’s amazing that I managed to store a creature of this size.
"It’s finally over. Now, what should I do next...?"
