Tents and Sleeping Bags

Message:

Hello guys,
First of all, we would like to apologize for disappearing without notice. Some problem suddenly came up with the hosting service we were using so we had to migrate our website. It took some time but we are finally up and running again. We will try to make sure that this does not happen again.

Additionally, this sudden migration has put a strain on our finances, so we need your support more than ever. As for how you can support us, we have listed that below:

Once again, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. We hope that you will continue to support us.

"Then there are camping gear items like burners, lights, and lanterns. I won't sell the burners, but I wonder if I should sell the lights and lanterns…"

"The burner is like the magic tool that produces fire you always use for cooking, right? But what are lights and lanterns?"

"Wait just a second. I think I still have a light from my world somewhere… Oh, here it is."

I returned to my room and retrieved a light from the backpack I had brought with me to this world.

"It looks like some kind of stick. How does it work?"

"Watch this. When you press this switch…"

"What’s this? A light spell!?"

"Wha-what is this light!?"

When I turned on the switch, the light illuminated brightly. Thankfully, the rechargeable light still had some charge left. The items available for purchase included solar-powered ones, so I suppose they could be charged and used similarly.

"Well, I’m not entirely sure of the details, but I think it converts sunlight into energy and then transforms that energy into light."

Though I didn’t fully understand how solar panels work, they convert sunlight into electricity.

"It allows you to produce light at night without starting a fire. By the way, are magic tools generally expensive in this world?"

"It depends, really. There are items that are practically junk and others that are national treasures."

"Indeed. Some mass-produced magic tools exist, so not all of them are expensive. However, I’ve rarely seen tools specifically for producing light."

So selling it as a magic tool might not be impossible. Still, I wonder about its demand.

After all, adventurers in this town don’t often camp out, and even if they did, they’d likely start a fire.

"You’ve seen me use the burner before, right? Until now, I could only purchase gas canisters, but now I can also buy the burner itself. Want to try it out, Lange?"

"Thanks! I’ve been a little curious about it for a while. It’ll definitely come in handy since I camp out quite often."

"Just be careful with it, okay? Mishandling it could lead to an explosion."

"…What!?"

"…Explosion!?"

Both of them were utterly shocked. Well, I did say it could explode, but it’s fine as long as you don’t, say, toss the gas canister into a fire.

I don’t plan to sell gas canisters or burners in the shop. Especially gas canisters—if handled poorly, they can be dangerous. Even though camping gear is convenient, some items do come with risks.

Moreover, they could be intentionally misused for harm. I’ll only give them to people I can trust.

"It’s perfectly fine as long as you use it properly. I’ll explain how to use it later, so don’t worry."

"Y-yeah… I’ll definitely need to hear how to handle it carefully!"

They both seemed quite shaken by the possibility of an explosion. Well, extra caution is necessary when handling burners.

"I’ve also gained access to some basic camping essentials like tents, sleeping bags, and chairs. But the quality doesn’t seem that great."

Camping gear is finally becoming available, making the shop feel more like an outdoor store. However, the items available for purchase are all of just passable quality.

Regarding tents and sleeping bags, starting with higher-quality gear might not be necessary, but once people grow accustomed, they’ll naturally want better products.

It’s unclear when, but I might be able to buy higher-quality tents and sleeping bags as I level up. There’s no way only one type of each exists; there’s a vast array of options in my original world.

"Still, I’m interested in seeing the tents and sleeping bags you can buy, Tetsuya. I’m sure the ones you already have are a bit better, right?"

"I’m curious too! I haven’t seen the tent or sleeping bag you brought with you, so let me take a look."

The tent I brought from my world costs around 20,000–30,000 yen, and the sleeping bag around 20,000 yen. Since I often camped in cold seasons, I had purchased items capable of handling fairly low temperatures.

I should check the quality of the tents and sleeping bags available through the shop as well.

"Alright, let’s take a look then."

I purchased a tent and sleeping bag from the shop and set them up in the backyard alongside the ones I had brought with me.

"What an interesting shape. And you don’t need ropes to secure the tent?"

In this world, tents are generally either cone-shaped with a single pole in the center or triangular with two poles.

"It seems the fabric of Tetsuya’s tent is of better quality."

"Yeah, higher-priced tents tend to have better materials, be more durable, or help retain indoor temperatures better."

The price differences between tents primarily come down to materials. Those that resist deterioration from rain, are sturdy, or retain indoor heat well are naturally more expensive.

"Tetsuya’s tent is easier to set up and lighter to carry, too."

"Tents like this might sell well here."

Compared to Lange’s tent, the one from my world was easier to assemble and, above all, lighter. While I’d need to verify its durability, tents might have potential demand in this world.

"The sleeping bags don’t seem all that different."

"Indeed, it doesn’t appear much different from what Lange already has."

Sleeping bags in this world use magical beast feathers. To truly understand the differences, they’d need to be tested in a colder environment.

I’ll have to ask Lange to help test them when we head to a colder region.
