Update:

Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now, we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.

As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:

"Tachihara-san, would you like some coffee?"

"Yes, that’s fine."

After demonstrating my power with water magic, I was guided to Mamoru-san’s room. This room was incredibly spacious—easily larger than my entire house. Inside, there were numerous PC monitors, tablets, and other devices.

"Apologies, but I wanted to keep the following discussion confidential from Fuka. Continuing from earlier, first, I’d like to express my gratitude to you.

Our late parents left us with a significant amount of assets. This apartment is just one part of it, and there are considerable other resources. I’d like you to accept a token of our gratitude from these assets."

It seems money isn’t an issue for someone living like this. However...

"...No, I didn’t save Fuka-chan for money."

To be honest, I’d love to have money in this world, but I can’t accept it. I didn’t save her expecting any reward, even though it’s tempting...

"In that case, if you ever find yourself in need of help, I hope you’ll let me lend a hand."

Even though it sounds idealistic, the power of money is undeniable. If I ever find myself truly in trouble, having their help would be a relief. After all, even with the powers of a Grand Mage, there are limits to what I can do.

"...I thought you might say that, Tachihara-san. Understood. If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Though not on your level, I pride myself on having considerable influence. I’m confident I can assist in various ways."

"Thank you. I’ll be counting on you if the time comes."

"And I have just one request for you, Tachihara-san."

"...What is it?"

Mamoru-san looked at me intently, a serious expression on his face. ...He’s not planning to exploit my abilities for something, is he?

"If Fuka or I were to ever suffer from a serious injury or illness again, could we count on you to save us? Of course, I’d make sure you’re properly compensated for your help."

Ah, so that’s what this is about. That much is fine.

"Understood. I don’t mind helping your family or close acquaintances. However, please be aware that I can only heal external injuries—I can’t cure illnesses."

"Really? Thank you so much! Even just being able to heal injuries is more than enough!"

He seemed incredibly relieved. Just being able to heal external injuries could act as a safety net for emergencies.

"Well, consider it a stroke of fate. But please ensure my identity remains a secret when mentioning this to anyone."

"Of course, absolutely!"

I have no choice but to trust them. Considering their wealth and lifestyle, it’s unlikely they’d sell my information for financial gain.

"Lastly, would it be possible for me to assist in your activities, Tachihara-san?"

"Assist in my activities?"

"Yes. This is just a guess, but I assume you’ve been helping people during accidents or incidents, as long as it didn’t interfere with your own life?"

"...Yes."

"I’d like to support that. First, I could inform you about accidents or incidents within your reach that you might be able to resolve. Rest assured, I’ll carefully curate the information to avoid overburdening you.

I work from home during the day, assisting the police with information gathering. Thanks to the assets left by our late parents, I don’t need to work, so it’s more of a hobby. I can share the information I come across with you."

A hobby of assisting the police with information gathering? That’s impressive. Receiving relevant information would be a huge help. The factory explosion incident was something I overheard from classmates by chance, and the terrorist attack was something I caught on the morning news.

Since inheriting the powers of a Grand Mage, I’ve started watching the news frequently. Still, there are likely countless incidents and accidents that never make the headlines.

"The second point is about coordination with the police. For example, during major disasters like earthquakes or tsunamis, being able to coordinate with police and emergency services could significantly improve efficiency.

For instance, while emergency teams search one side, you could search the other. Effective collaboration could save more lives.

Additionally, we could assist with police communication. This includes incident reports and follow-ups, as well as facilitating various conveniences with law enforcement."

I see. Coordinating with police and emergency services could indeed boost efficiency. And being able to gain police cooperation sounds incredible.

"This arrangement seems to be full of advantages for me, but what’s in it for you, Mamoru-san?"

"...Honestly, not much. Occasionally, the police offer small rewards, but they’re minimal. If anything, I suppose it’s the satisfaction of knowing I’ve helped others. But if we’re talking about motivation, isn’t it the same for you, Tachihara-san?"

"...Now that you mention it, I suppose I help people for my own satisfaction too."

I’m not doing it for any tangible reward. Still, if I have the power to help people, I want to use it within my capabilities.

"That’s all there is to it. People don’t need a reason to help each other. And as a man, isn’t it natural to admire the idea of being a hero?"
