Hello guys,
First of all, we would like to apologize for disappearing without notice. Some problem suddenly came up with the hosting service we
were using so we had to migrate our website. It took some time but we are finally up and running again. We will try to make sure
that this does not happen again.
Additionally, this sudden migration has put a strain on our finances, so we need your support more than ever. As for how you can support us, we have listed that below:
Once again, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. We hope that you will continue to support us.
The guild master, for some reason, listens closely to what I say.
However, I cannot say the same for the kingdom; their response was far from timely.
Before the Black Face Disease spread throughout the slums, it first ravaged the commoners' district, quickly reaching the nobility’s quarters.
Only when numerous nobles fell ill did the kingdom finally rouse itself into action.
"Put them over there."
Each day, more than 100 Black Face Disease patients are brought to my estate.
Even now, Pal is busily directing where to lay down the incoming patients.
In moments like these, it helps that my estate has no neighbors.
Under normal circumstances, having this many infectious patients around would lead to complaints.
However, thanks to the estate’s isolated location, I can avoid unnecessary friction and chaos.
Every day, I use magic on around a hundred people.
Initially, treating the disease was challenging because I wasn’t familiar with it.
Normally, I’d completely heal my patients, but curing diseases like this one outright leads to relapses.
Instead, the best approach is to alleviate the symptoms significantly and enhance the patient’s natural healing capacity.
By allowing their bodies to produce antibodies, they can gain immunity and won’t contract the disease again.
"Young master, that’s enough for today."
"Yeah, I think I’ve reached my limit."
This daily routine is exhausting, even for me.
But I can't let myself falter—those who are suffering have it much worse.
As I feared, Black Face Disease spread throughout the royal capital.
With its incredibly high transmission rate and an 80% fatality rate upon onset, the situation is dire.
The nobility, aware of the disease’s danger, began fleeing the capital in droves.
However, there’s no guarantee they aren’t already infected, and their actions only accelerated the disease’s spread to rural areas.
Thanks to the Adventurers’ Guild’s efforts, the slums and commoner districts were sealed off.
This measure successfully contained the outbreak in those areas.
But this came at a cost—many succumbed to starvation as a result.
"Interestingly, the wealthy and nobility seem to account for most of the Black Face Disease cases," the guild master reported during a visit to my clinic.
Although the city remains under lockdown, the guild’s proximity to the commoners' district allows the guild master to visit.
"Black Face Disease spreads through contact, so preventing it requires maintaining a sanitary environment."
"Following your advice, we’ve been promoting handwashing and improving hygiene in both the slums and commoner districts.
Thanks to these measures, deaths have been limited to around 200 in the slums and 150 in the commoner district. We’re deeply grateful for your guidance."
In the slums and commoner districts, the disease is subsiding.
Patients who make it to my clinic before it’s too late can be saved.
However, in areas where the wealthy and nobles reside, chaos reigns.
Despite knowing the risks, they continue to act recklessly, worsening the outbreak.
"The spread of Black Face Disease has also indefinitely postponed your investiture ceremony, Lord Sai. A shame, truly."
"I couldn’t care less. What about the areas outside the capital?"
"Guild branches across the kingdom are implementing the measures you provided, though progress is slow due to the stubbornness of certain lords. Full containment has yet to be achieved."
"And the Empire? Other nations?"
"The Ordrette Kingdom has sealed its borders to prevent the disease from entering, so their impact is minimal."
"That’s some small relief."
The key to minimizing casualties is ensuring the disease doesn’t cross into other nations.
Still, the clergy’s inaction disappoints me.
Despite their prominence in everyday life, they’ve done nothing to address the crisis.
Clerics’ healing magic can cure Black Face Disease entirely, but it comes at a cost.
By completely eradicating the illness, they prevent the patient from building immunity, leaving them vulnerable to reinfection.
In contrast, my method weakens the disease rather than eliminating it, bolstering the patient’s natural healing ability to develop resistance.
Thus, my patients don’t contract the disease again, whereas those cured by clerics are repeatedly infected.
I’ve relayed this information to the temple through the Adventurers’ Guild.
Yet, the clergy refuse to adopt my methods—perhaps because they lack the necessary skills.
Their magic lacks an analytical capability to monitor the patient's internal state, unlike my abilities.
Though they possess a skill called "Appraisal," it doesn’t provide the insights needed for effective treatment.
"In the high-class residential and noble districts, the death toll is staggering," the guild master lamented.
The slums and commoner districts remain entirely sealed off from these areas.
Thus, while the disease is nearly eradicated among the poor, the wealthy and nobles are suffering greatly.
"There’s nothing I can do for them. They’ll have to figure it out on their own."
These areas are off-limits to people like us. Even in normal times, commoners cannot freely enter, and now they are entirely sealed.
The nobles believe that their suffering must mean the commoners are enduring even worse.
In reality, it’s quite the opposite—but they refuse to acknowledge it.
