“Yes, freshly baked bread is irresistible! Mr. Tetsuya, you could totally open a bakery!”

“I’m glad you like it. The bread was just baked from the dough everyone helped make, so it’s thanks to all of you.”

Fia and Angel are both happily munching on the freshly baked bread. As expected from siblings, Angel is saying the same thing as her brother, Dolph.

By the way, pizzas are baked quickly using direct fire and radiant heat while the firewood is still burning, but bread is baked for close to ten minutes using the residual heat after removing the burning logs. That’s the main difference.

This time it’s just simple round bread made from rolled dough, but someday I’d like to try baking square loaf bread. Apparently, unlike round bread, it’s harder to bake square loaves cleanly.

“This is better than the bread sold in town!”

“Yes, it’s really delicious!”

“Even in town, the bread from bakeries is incredibly good when it’s freshly baked.”

Ms. Ferry and Ms. Berna are also enjoying the bread, but it’s true that even in town, freshly baked bread from a bakery is amazing. Still, since bakers usually bake their bread early in the morning, it’s rare to get to eat it fresh out of the oven.

“The salad and fried eggs here are delicious too. What a luxurious breakfast to start the day.”

“Mr. Lange made the bacon and eggs, Lilia. The eggs and bacon taste different, don’t they?”

The eggs and bacon used in the bacon and eggs were provided by Ms. Berna and Ms. Ferry. In Al-Flare, fresh eggs are a bit hard to come by, so that was a big help.

Plus, the bacon used really high-quality meat. Even though it’s a simple dish, it tastes totally different from your average bacon and eggs. When you cook the bacon until crispy in its own fat and then add the eggs, the eggs soak up all that bacon fat and become absolutely delicious.

Drizzle a little soy sauce on that and eat it with freshly baked bread, and it becomes a truly luxurious flavor for breakfast. I used to eat bacon and eggs a lot in the original world, but with good ingredients like this, the taste gets elevated to a whole new level. Amazing!

“It’s also amazing with this jam!”

“Yeah, it’s packed with sugar and really sweet, and it goes perfectly with the freshly baked bread!”

Mr. Lange and Dolph are splitting the round bread and spreading red jam from a jar onto it before eating.

First, they tasted the bread on its own, and then I had them try it with homemade jam. In Al-Flare, there was a fruit sold that’s similar to strawberries, so I added sugar and simmered it down to make homemade jam.

Ideally, jam is best when it’s freshly made and still warm, but that takes extra effort, so I brought some that I had already made. The aroma of freshly baked wheat and the sweetness of the jam go together wonderfully!

“It’s sweet and feels like such a luxurious treat!”

“Yes, it’s truly amazing! But sugar is still expensive in town, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. Spices have become a lot cheaper, but I really hope sugar drops in price too.”

Just like Angel said, due to the establishment of magical cultivation methods, spices have gotten much cheaper even in Al-Flare. However, that cultivation method apparently doesn’t work for sugar, so it’s still a bit pricey.

I don’t spend that much money in general, so I’ve decided to splurge a little when it comes to ingredients and seasonings.

Ms. Ferry’s summoned beasts, Sleip and Sylph, are also enjoying breakfast. They’ll be pulling the carriage at high speed and standing guard through the night again today, so I want them to eat a lot and do their best.

According to Ms. Ferry, summoned beasts use their summoner’s magic as energy, so they don’t actually need to eat. But seeing Sleip and Sylph happily munching on breakfast like this is oddly heartwarming.

I really wish I could use summoning magic too.

“Mr. Tetsuya, we’ll be arriving at the town of Eibra soon.”

“That’s fast. There still seems to be quite a bit of time before sunset.”

“Sleip gave it his all.”

Just like yesterday, we’re on track to reach our destination, the town of Eibra, without any major problems.

If I remember correctly, when we went to the royal capital last time, the plan was to arrive around sunset, but thanks to Sleip, we made it earlier. Back then we stayed just one night and left the next day, but this time we have a more relaxed schedule, so we’ll spend the night here again tomorrow and leave the morning after.

Since we have a whole month off, we may as well enjoy it at a leisurely pace.

“…Hmm? Mr. Tetsuya, could you take a look at this for a second?”

“What is it, Dolph?”

From inside the carriage, Dolph calls out to me. He’s been reading the plant encyclopedia I bought while riding.

Thanks to my Outdoor Shop ability, I can purchase maps, monster encyclopedias, and plant encyclopedias. These are excellent items that provide information near where I purchased them in the common language of this world.

We discovered this feature during our last trip to the royal capital, and I’ve been trying to determine the range of that information by purchasing them at various stops along the way.

I get motion sickness when riding vehicles, so I planned to read them slowly after returning to Al-Flare, but Dolph can read while riding, so he was reading it to pass the time.

“This ‘Belmarcon’ seems to be a vegetable grown around here, and apparently it can be used to make sugar.”
