“Yeah, I’m stuffed. But still, this is the first time I’ve eaten such amazing meat. And these sauces are incredible too!”
“I’m glad you and Fal liked them, Roya. I can get more of this sauce now, so let me know if you ever want some. Just keep in mind that, unlike outdoor spices, it doesn’t last very long.”
Roya and Fal seemed satisfied with the Earth Dragon and Red Basilisk meat. They had been asking non-stop about what kind of meat it was earlier, but some things in this world are better left unknown.
The outdoor sauce was a new item I could purchase thanks to my Outdoor Shop ability leveling up. However, unlike the solid outdoor spices, this one was a liquid, which meant it had a shorter shelf life.
Roya and the others didn’t have refrigerators or any kind of magic tool to replace them, so even if they stored it in a cool place, I figured it would only last about a week.
Because of that, selling outdoor sauce at the shop would probably be difficult.
“Thanks, Tetsuya. This sauce is just as good as eating with outdoor spices.”
“Yeah, I got it. Since it doesn’t last long, I’ll save it for special occasions.”
“Sounds good.”
Roya and Fal grinned happily. The price of spices in this town had finally started to drop a little, but they still weren’t widely available. In such a situation, the taste of this outdoor sauce stood out even more, so I understood how they felt.
“Alright, I made some desserts too, so give them a try.”
I placed three types of desserts on the table.
It had been a while since we started the barbecue, and everyone should be feeling quite full by now. The massive amount of Earth Dragon meat that had covered the entire table had been significantly reduced.
The remaining meat was being turned into smoked Earth Dragon and Red Basilisk meat for Berna, Ferry, and Ruhail from the royal capital. At the same time, I was still roasting a Dragon in the Dutch oven. While it wasn’t a labor-intensive dish, it did take quite a bit of time to cook.
“These are all things I’ve never seen before.”
“Hmm, they all look unusual. Is this one just grilled fruit?”
It seemed like Patrice and Gregor had never seen these kinds of desserts before.
The first dessert was exactly what Gregor had guessed—grilled fruit. I had served this before at the gathering in the garden.
“Yeah, the sweetness really gets concentrated, making it incredibly tasty!”
“Wow, so grilling fruit makes it taste like this!”
Lilia and Nicole ate the grilled fruit with delight. When fruit is grilled, the moisture inside reduces, concentrating its natural sweetness. Just like last time, I had prepared bananas, apples, and grapes.
“Oh, this one’s cold and has an interesting texture!”
“Wow! It’s cold, wobbly, and super delicious!”
“This is a jelly drink. I had Lange cool it with ice magic. It’s got a fun texture and tastes great, right? It’s not very good at room temperature, so we don’t sell it at the shop. Enjoy it while you can.”
The second dessert was a chilled jelly drink. Since it required a portable refrigerator or someone like Lange with ice magic to keep it cold, it wasn’t feasible for store sales.
Rizac and Albera seemed surprised by the unique texture of the jelly drink.
“I’ve never seen a dessert like this before.”
“…A dark brown liquid with white mochi inside?”
“This is called oshiruko in my homeland, Berna, Ferry.”
The third dessert, which Berna and Ferry had never seen before, was oshiruko. It was actually made from yokan.
If you cut store-bought yokan into small pieces, add a little water, and heat it in a pot, the yokan dissolves into the water, thickening it. Adding lightly grilled mochi with a bit of char completes the oshiruko.
“It’s sweet and delicious!”
“Wow, this is incredibly sweet and tasty! It has the same flavor as the yokan you gave us, Tetsuya.”
“Good observation, Rea. If you cut yokan into small pieces, add a little water, and heat it, it turns out like this.”
Fia and her mother, Rea, seemed to enjoy it. Eating yokan as is was delicious, but I personally loved oshiruko as well.
By the way, if you take the same melted yokan mixture and chill it with ice magic, it becomes mizu-yokan. Eating it cold on a hot day gives it a refreshing and smooth texture that’s really satisfying.
Yokan is quite versatile like that. Maybe I should post an oshiruko recipe at the shop sometime. We don’t sell mochi yet, but it could be substituted with other ingredients.
It’s said that adding sweet potatoes, strawberries, or bananas to oshiruko makes it delicious as well.
