Outdoor sauce—a newly introduced seasoning designed for outdoor use from my original world.
Recently, various manufacturers have been selling "outdoor spices," which are all-purpose seasonings that go well with meat, fish, and vegetables. Following this trend, outdoor sauces were introduced.
Outdoor spices are indeed versatile and delicious, but they have the downside of making everything taste the same. That’s where outdoor sauces come in, offering a variety of flavors. These sauces aren’t just the familiar dark sauces; they include barbecue sauce, garlic-onion sauce, and many more.
For today’s barbecue, I prepared two types of outdoor sauces: barbecue flavor and garlic-onion flavor.
“Oh, this is delicious! Of course, the meat is great, but this sauce is a flavor I’ve never tasted before!”
“Amazing! It’s delicious even with just salt, but this sauce is incredible too!”
“Man, this really makes the drinks go down smooth!”
Gregor, Fal, and Rizac were enjoying the dragon meat grilled with different seasonings.
While a simple sprinkle of salt and pepper is great, Earth Dragon meat is rich enough to hold its own against strong barbecue sauces and outdoor sauces.
“This is an incredible flavor! I’ve never had anything seasoned like this before!”
“The usual barbecue sauce and outdoor spices are good, but this is great too!”
“I’m glad you like it. Feel free to take some of this sauce along with the usual barbecue sauce as a souvenir.”
Berna and Ferry, who had provided the Earth Dragon meat, seemed pleased with the new outdoor sauce flavors. Just like outdoor spices, these sauces pair well with grilled meat, fish, and vegetables.
“Really? Thank you so much!”
“Tetsuya, thanks a lot!”
Now that I’ve reached level 5, my outdoor shop ability allows me to purchase a variety of new items. It may not match the value of this massive chunk of Earth Dragon meat, but I’ll make sure they get plenty in return.
“I’ve also prepared other types of meat and dishes, so please try them too.”
Aside from the Earth Dragon meat, I also had some Red Basilisk meat given to me by Luhail, the guild master of the royal capital. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of Earth Dragon meat, it is still considered a high-end ingredient.
Unlike dragon meat, this meat has a more refined flavor that allows the umami to shine through. No matter how incredibly delicious the fatty Earth Dragon meat is, eating only fatty meat can become overwhelming.
That’s why I made sure to grill some vegetables in between.
“...Alright, this one is ready too.”
While everyone was enjoying the barbecue, I had been preparing another dish in parallel, and it was finally done. I placed the Dutch oven, which had been cooking over the fire, in the center of the table and lifted its heavy lid.
“Whoa, there’s a huge chunk of meat in the pot—it looks insanely luxurious!”
“Wow, it looks so delicious!”
“Fia remembers! This is a roast, right?”
Rizac and Nicole peered into the Dutch oven with interest. Just as Fia said, this was the same dish I made before when I received Wyvern meat. But this time, since it’s dragon meat, it’s become a "Roast Dragon."
“Tetsuya, big brother! The meat is still red!”
“T-Tetsuya, eating undercooked meat might make you sick…!”
Albera and Patrice, who weren’t around when we did the previous outdoor barbecue, voiced their concerns after seeing the red interior of the sliced Roast Dragon.
“This is a cooking method from my homeland called ‘roasting.’ It’s been slow-cooked thoroughly, so it’s perfectly safe to eat as is.”
This Roast Dragon was first seared on the outside, then placed in the Dutch oven, where charcoal was set on the lid for all-around slow roasting. This ensured that the inside was fully cooked.
The sauces prepared included a gravy made from the dragon’s natural juices, wine, vegetables, and seasonings, as well as garlic-onion outdoor sauce and soy sauce. For the soy sauce, I also had wasabi to make a Japanese-style wasabi soy sauce pairing.
For roasting, the leaner parts of the meat are more flavorful, so I used the red meat portion of the Earth Dragon that I received.
“Whoa! This is amazing!”
“The Wyvern meat from last time was delicious, but this is even better!”
“I’ve never seen this cooking method in the royal capital! It’s truly delicious!”
Roya, Lilia, and Berna expressed their amazement.
Grilled meat is, of course, delicious, but roasted dragon meat has a tender, moist texture. The more you chew, the more the juicy umami of the dragon meat spreads through your mouth. It’s a rich, concentrated meat flavor, different from beef, pork, or chicken.
Freshly made, piping hot Roast Dragon is truly incredible. It pairs perfectly with the gravy made from the dragon’s juices.
Additionally, since I now had access to more types of smoking chips, I also prepared smoked Earth Dragon and Red Basilisk meat. The different chips gave each type of smoked meat a unique aroma, making it really fun to experiment with.
I made a generous amount of these smoked meats, so as usual, I planned to give the extra portions to Berna and Ferry as souvenirs.
