After 4cats, the only girl group under ES Entertainment, released their debut song, ‘If We Could Meet Again,’ many agencies became curious about the mysterious composer, Dimension.
However, there was no publicly available information about Dimension.
Not long after ‘If We Could Meet Again’ became a hit, 4cats released their second song, ‘Smash It.’ When the song was played live on the radio, word spread, and people started purchasing and listening to the track.
Industry professionals who heard the song all reached the same conclusion.
“This one’s going to be a hit.”
“Getting lucky with one song is possible, but if two consecutive songs become guaranteed hits, then it’s no longer about luck.”
“Dimension is the real deal!”
The president of a mid-sized entertainment agency slammed his fist on the desk.
“Who the hell is Dimension?! I told you to find out ages ago! Why haven’t you figured it out yet?! Are you even earning your salary? Huh?”
The director shrank his shoulders and explained.
“We’re doing everything we can to track them down, but no one knows who Dimension is. They’re not even registered with the association, so there’s no way to find them…”
“I don’t care what it takes—just find them and get them to sign a contract! We have money, we have singers, we have influence! No matter how you look at it, we’re better than ES Entertainment! Just get the songs! ES Entertainment has already had their fill with two songs!”
Similar situations were unfolding at other agencies.
Eventually, a director suggested a new approach to his president.
“Neither of the songs are registered with the association. What if we register them under your name first and announce it?”
“Are you telling me to screw myself over?”
“Huh?”
“Do you think stealing a song that’s already been aired publicly and registering it under my name will make it mine? If we get sued, do you think a judge will take my side? I’d get roasted alive before the case even reaches court. And after the ruling, I’d have to pay damages. Are you trying to ruin me? Do you have no common sense?”
“It’s just that no matter how much we search, we can’t find out who Dimension is. I was getting desperate. I didn’t mean we should actually register it—just spread a rumor that we did. Maybe that’ll piss them off enough to contact us.”
“And you think someone who contacts us out of anger will actually sell us their songs? Shut up with your nonsense. Did you at least ask ES Entertainment?”
The director sighed.
“Of course, I asked. They said they’d rather die than reveal the name.”
The president grumbled.
“I thought Oh Dong-cheol was a nice guy, but this is too much. He should at least share such a great composer.”
As soon as Seo Jung-woo received a call from Seo Sora, he put down the pork belly and went out to buy premium beef. Naturally, he kept the receipt.
Before Seo Sora could take it, Yoon Nana snatched the receipt first.
“I’ll get the money back from the boss… Oh my. Just twenty—Wait! You spent 200,000 won on beef?!”
“There are five of us. That much is necessary.”
“Ah, right.”
Seo Jung-woo took charge of grilling the meat.
Back in the battlefield, he had mastered the art of making even terrible-tasting monster meat edible. Compared to that, cooking beef was nothing.
Different types of meat require different grilling techniques, but monster meat wasn’t just one kind. Seo Jung-woo had developed skills to grill a variety of meats, and those skills worked exceptionally well when cooking beef in this world.
Everyone eagerly devoured the meat he cooked.
Not a single one of them cared about maintaining a celebrity figure.
They had no personal managers monitoring their diets, and since they had never been on a broadcast before, they had no understanding of body management.
Seo Sora, Yoon Nana, and even the well-off twins inhaled the food.
Park Ha-yeon marveled.
“This is amazing! How do you make it taste this good?”
Seo Jung-woo explained his technique.
“There are two reasons. First, I’m just really good at grilling meat.”
“And the second?”
“This is the real secret—there exists a magical white powder.”
In this world, MSG was produced by fermenting sugarcane in factories. In the other world, where sugarcane was rare, MSG was chemically synthesized instead.
The production methods differed, but the taste-enhancing effect was the same.
Seo Jung-woo carefully sprinkled salt and MSG while grilling the meat. Adding too much would ruin the flavor, but he knew the perfect amount for each type of meat.
By the time they had eaten over two kilograms of meat, they finally snapped back to their senses.
Still, about one kilogram remained. Seo Jung-woo stored the leftovers in the refrigerator.
Yoon Nana checked the receipt again. Even though he had bought the meat from a large supermarket, it still cost over 200,000 won.
She knew the company had no money, and she felt bad for Oh Dong-cheol.
Recalling her earlier conversation with him, she turned to Seo Jung-woo.
“Oppa, do you happen to know how to choreograph dances? We still don’t have a routine.”
“Nope.”
In Seo Jung-woo’s opinion, the other world had better music, but this world had superior dance moves.
‘The dance styles in the other world look grand and impressive when performed by Awakened individuals, but the ones done by non-Awakened are too simplistic. This world’s dances, on the other hand, are far more intricate and visually stunning.’
Suddenly, an idea struck him.
‘Should I bring this world’s dance moves over there? If I teach them to a celebrity I know in the other world…’
He did know one entertainer in that world.
‘Wait, no. She’s an actress, not a singer.’
While he didn’t personally know any singers, he knew someone who did.
‘Or maybe I can rope in Cheol-woo and sell the choreography? He could use some extra cash for armor-piercing rounds.’
Watching Seo Jung-woo ponder, Yoon Nana misinterpreted his expression.
‘Is he trying to come up with a way to help because of what I said? Oh my, is he really?’
Feeling touched, she smiled brightly and said,
“Don’t feel pressured by what I said. You’re just so amazing that I thought I’d ask, just in case.”
Seo Sora interjected from the side.
“Nana, I told you, he’s not a genius.”
“He totally is.”
“If he were a real genius, it would be in his genes. Then I should be able to compose songs too, right? I tried, but I can’t.”
Yoon Nana waggled her finger side to side.
“Sora, that’s what you call a ‘genetic monopoly.’”
“Huh?”
“All the good genes went to your oppa.”
“Whose side are you even on?!”
Meanwhile, Seo Jung-woo completely ignored their conversation and continued thinking about dance choreography.
‘The other world does have some cool dances…’
But most of the singers who dance that impressively are Awakened.
When someone awakens a skill, their physical abilities often improve. This is especially common with combat skills.
Seo Jung-woo's shooting skill allows him to draw his gun faster, shoot more accurately, and control his aim’s stability.
To do that, he must be more agile than an ordinary person, move with precision, and have greater strength.
To accurately track a fast-moving target, he also needs enhanced dynamic vision.
There are many other physical conditions required as well.
The shooting skill enhances all of these aspects. And if such physical abilities are enhanced, naturally, one’s hand-to-hand combat ability also improves.
There are many skills besides shooting that enhance physical abilities. When someone with such a skill dances, they can perform moves that are difficult for ordinary people.
'Now that I think about it, I can dance a little too. There are people in that world who dance even better, though.'
There is someone in that world who dances in a truly extraordinary way.
A singer with a Blink skill dances in a way that no ordinary person can imitate. That singer teleports short distances on stage while performing.
Seo Jung-woo chuckled.
'Since I only need to teleport once during the performance, I could probably do that dance now too. But I can’t let anyone in this world see it.'
The next afternoon, Seo Jung-woo crossed over to the other world.
Seo Sora greeted him.
Her face was clearly turned toward him, but her eyes were on the bag he was carrying.
Seo Jung-woo handed her the bag.
"This is Hanwoo beef."
"Wow, this looks delicious..."
Seo Sora opened the bag to check the meat, then suddenly paused.
"This meat looks different from what you usually bring."
"Right? This is Hanwoo ribeye, the kind even people in that world can’t easily eat. It melts in your mouth."
"Wow! Is this the ribeye they talk about in old novels?"
To produce ribeye, cattle must be fed grain. In a world where agriculture has collapsed and livestock farming is nearly extinct, very few people can afford to feed cattle with grain. Ribeye had become the kind of meat only found in old books.
The reason Seo Jung-woo had bought 200,000 won worth of meat yesterday was so that there would be leftovers to bring over. The 4cats had eaten more than he expected, so he barely managed to save this one cut.
After putting the meat in the refrigerator, Seo Sora spoke with a serious expression.
"We need to establish a new base."
Seo Jung-woo’s face hardened slightly. Seo Sora wouldn’t bring this up without a reason.
"Did something happen?"
"I spotted someone watching this place."
Seo Sora had awakened a long-range surveillance skill. Those with such skills were more sensitive to being watched.
"Did you identify them?"
"They’re from the White Shark guild."
Seo Jung-woo’s eyebrow twitched slightly.
"So they let it slide in that world, and now they have the nerve to spy on my home?"
First, he needed to figure out why the White Shark guild was watching this house.
He had a hunch. Not long ago, while investigating Detective Kim Jung-ho’s abduction in that world, he had briefly looked into the White Shark guild in this one.
"Sora, how many people did you ask about the White Shark guild?"
"Five. One of them must have sold the information that we were investigating."
"We’ll deal with that rat later. The real problem is the White Shark guild."
In that world, the White Shark guild operated under the name Knife Gang.
And Seo Jung-woo had wiped out the Knife Gang. He had set off four enhanced incendiary grenades, turning their entire building into ashes.
"Are they watching this place just as a reaction to our investigation? Or is this reconnaissance before an attack?"
He couldn’t be sure yet.
"I agree that we should relocate the base."
"We needed to move anyway. This place is too far from your usual teleportation point. Sometimes you return unarmed, and coming all the way here without even a handgun is dangerous. It also wastes too much time."
"Yeah. We should move closer to that area."
"I’ve already found a good property. It’s a single-story building with walls twice as thick as normal, a basement armory and shelter, and an attic for external surveillance."
"Where is it?"
"Close to where our old house was. It’s also near your teleportation point. Since it's close to a danger zone, the price is low."
"It has to be cheap enough that we can buy it without selling this house."
"It is. That area sees frequent small gate occurrences, so property values are low. We can afford it with our savings. And we must keep this house—it’s perfect for setting traps."
"Then let’s proceed immediately."
"We can move in tomorrow. The place is currently vacant, so we can settle in as soon as we pay."
"But if we move there, what about your job?"
Seo Sora had awakened as a sniper with long-range surveillance abilities. Many places needed her skills.
"Many important facilities in that area have already requested my surveillance services. I can choose which jobs to take."
Seo Jung-woo looked at Seo Sora and thought,
'How is the same person so different at work? Here, she handles everything so perfectly.'
Thinking of Seo Sora in that world made him sigh.
"Over there, sigh... Anyway, good job. That settles the issue of the new base."
Seo Jung-woo’s expression hardened further.
"The White Shark guild is still a problem. Those bastards in that world were irredeemable criminals. Here, they’re probably even worse."
He still didn’t know the full extent of their intentions. They might just be conducting long-distance surveillance, but they could also send a few men to break into the house.
In this world, breaking into someone’s home uninvited was a surefire way to get shot. If they were willing to take that risk, it meant they intended to kill the homeowner.
Seo Sora asked,
"Are you planning to go after the White Shark guild?"
"If they were just scouting and then left, I might let it go. But if I confirm that they’re targeting us, we have to strike first."
"Their clan master, Jeon Chang-su, has both a detection skill and a shooting skill, so sniping him is impossible. He also always travels with many subordinates, making close combat even riskier. Since they’ve only been watching from a distance for now, we should wait and observe."
"If that guy wants to live long, he’d better lose interest in us. I’ll go back to that world and look into him. He might have a weakness."
"In that world?"
"I’m a detective over there, remember? Good thing I haven’t quit yet."
