Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now,
we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with
Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.
As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:
“Thank you for the meal.”
“It was delicious.”
“O-oh. I’m glad you’re satisfied.”
Even after eating that much katsu curry, they still managed to eat so many chocolate bars and yokan.
They each ate an entire yokan… Just where does all that food go…?
“By the way, Ferry, Lange, I wanted to ask you something. Are there a lot of people in the royal capital who can use storage magic?”
“There’s a decent number. If it’s just about the size of a backpack, it’s not that difficult of a spell.”
“That’s right. But the capacity of storage magic is determined by the individual’s magic power, so those with larger capacities are usually elves like us.”
I see. It’s a common trope in fantasy worlds that elves have greater magical power, and it seems this world follows that trend as well.
“Hmm, so people who can store large amounts with storage magic are still rare. If I wanted to transport about a carriage’s worth of goods from this town of Al-Flare to the royal capital, should I request it through the Adventurers’ Guild?”
“Yeah, but I doubt there’s anyone in Al-Flare who can store that much. Even in the royal capital, there aren’t many who can. As for me, I can manage about two-thirds of a carriage’s worth.”
“Even for you, it’s only about that much, huh?”
So an ordinary magic user can only store about a backpack’s worth… In that case, maybe hiring two people who can each store about half a carriage’s worth would be better. Hmm… I should consult Rizac, the guild master.
“Tetsuya, if you need something transported to the royal capital, I could do it.”
“No, Lange, I already rely on you for procurement. Besides, this isn’t essential. If it doesn’t work out, that’s fine too.”
“Tetsuya, what exactly are you trying to transport?”
“If it becomes possible to preserve retort food and these sweets for long periods, I was thinking of arranging a monthly shipment of food products. Items like compasses and other goods can take their time being transported, and unlike food, the Adventurers’ Guild is more willing to assist with them. But food doesn’t necessarily have to be sold in the royal capital.”
Currently, the items I supply to the Adventurers’ Guild are things like compasses and water purifiers—products that increase adventurers’ survival rates. The compass, in particular, has been proven useful even in dungeons, so it’s sure to be in high demand in other towns as well.
However, the other products I have aren’t so much about survival as they are about making adventuring life more comfortable. So if transporting them is too difficult, there’s no urgent need to sell them.
Since my outdoor shop and the Adventurers’ Guild have a cooperative relationship, they’d probably at least help me find someone capable of handling transportation.
“I’ll do it!”
“Huh?”
For some reason, Ferry suddenly raised her right arm enthusiastically.
“I can carry two carriages’ worth, so I can take your sweets to the royal capital, Tetsuya.”
…It’s not just sweets I need transported, though. But that’s not even the main issue.
“No way! I can’t ask an A-rank adventurer like you to handle something like this!”
In terms of feasibility, if she can store two carriages’ worth, there’d be no problem with storage magic. Honestly, I had briefly considered asking Ferry as a long shot.
However, given what I’ve learned, anyone who can use storage magic at that level would require an enormous fee. More than that, I can’t ask an A-rank adventurer like Ferry to transport goods from a town full of beginner adventurers to the royal capital every month.
“This isn’t the kind of request an A-rank adventurer should be handling. And I can’t ask you to come here every month just for that.”
“It’s fine. I was planning to visit Lilia regularly anyway.”
“…That’s true. If it’s just once a month, it could be a good break for us.”
Even Berna…
“No, I really can’t—”
“Tetsuya, if they’re both saying it’s fine, then why not? …Besides, I think they have another reason for wanting to come, beyond just seeing me.”
…Another reason?
“U-uhm… actually, we were hoping that, like Lange, we could regularly enjoy your delicious cooking and those sweets…”
“Tetsuya’s food is very tasty. That’s enough for payment.”
“…Wait, are you really okay with that? Just food and sweets…?”
Thanks to my outdoor shop’s abilities and my knowledge of food from my previous world, I can make dishes that others can’t, but… food and sweets as payment? Is that really okay for A-rank adventurers?
“You might not understand since you’ve never been an adventurer, Tetsuya, but for adventurers like us, good food is one of the biggest joys in life. Especially for high-ranked adventurers—we often have to travel for days or take on long-term quests.”
“Lange is right. Even being able to use storage magic for just a backpack’s worth is incredibly valuable. When I was a rookie adventurer, the cheap preserved food we had to eat was just awful… Once you start making decent money, the first thing you want to upgrade is your meals.”
Lange and Lilia spoke with intense passion. Maybe they both struggled with food when they were rookie adventurers.
It seemed adventurers in this world were far more desperate for good meals than I had imagined.
