And so, here I am, standing in front of the building where the fraud group is believed to be hiding. It’s not an old building, but it’s far from the station and in a deserted area.

"...I kind of rushed into this."

"Hoo!"

As soon as I heard Mamoru-san’s explanation, I made my way to this building. I used my stealth skill from the nearest station just in case. I also brought Fūsuke along, but as usual, I had him shrink down.

Even with my stealth skill, I’d still show up on surveillance cameras. One thing I’ve learned for sure—Mamoru-san is not someone you want as an enemy.

I had already discussed my plan with Mamoru-san. I needed to infiltrate this building and find evidence of the fraud committed by these people. Once I secured the evidence, I would hand the fraudsters over to a police officer Mamoru-san knew, and my mission would be complete.

"Still, this is pretty nerve-wracking."

After all, I was about to sneak into what was likely the headquarters of a criminal organization. I’d gained some courage from dealing with terrorists and conquering dungeons, but I was still somewhat scared.

That said, no human could ever compare to that dungeon boss. Ugh, damn it, now I’m remembering it again…

According to Mamoru-san’s research, there was a surveillance camera at the building’s entrance. I couldn’t afford to get caught before I found evidence of their crimes.

I used detection magic to check the area around the building… Hmm, seems like there’s only one surveillance camera at the front entrance. Next, I activated my presence detection skill. Each floor of the building had about 10 to 20 people.

Unlike in the other world, Japan has way too many people, so I usually keep this skill turned off. The one time I used it in a building near the station, the sheer number of people made my head hurt.

Now, this building had five floors, but where exactly was the fraud group? According to Mamoru-san, modern fraud groups often blend in with legitimate businesses and operate out of normal office buildings.

Even though this place was a bit out of the way, it was hard to believe that a group of scammers would be operating from such an ordinary building. Still, I trusted Mamoru-san’s information. Worst case scenario, I’d be guilty of trespassing… Well, I’d escape before they could catch me.

"Alright, I managed to get inside."

After scouting around the building, I found that a storage room window on the third floor was open, allowing me to sneak in. Of course, I was wearing my usual black mask.

The front entrance had a surveillance camera, and both the emergency exit at the back and the rooftop door were locked. I could have broken the lock, but that would’ve given me away too quickly.

If necessary, I was prepared to break in through the rooftop, since fewer people would likely go up there, but luckily, I found an open window. Given that this window faced the street, whoever left it open was pretty careless. Then again, no one would expect an intruder to climb up and enter through the third-floor window of a building.

"First, I’ll search this floor."

Peeking through the window before entering, I saw that each floor resembled a typical office, like something you’d see in a drama. It was almost hard to believe that fraudsters were operating in this building.

The storage room was cluttered with PCs, printers, phones, and stationery. This floor was likely just a regular office.

I slowly opened the storage room door and stepped into the hallway. With my stealth skill active, even if someone saw me, they wouldn’t recognize me. Still, I used my presence detection skill to avoid running into anyone.

This felt like playing a famous stealth game, but this was real life. If criminals were in this building, and I was sneaking around illegally, I needed to stay on high alert.

"You idiot! That’s completely wrong! Listen, you need to put yourself in the other person’s shoes!"

"S-Sorry!"

A loud voice echoed across the floor. I cracked the door open slightly to peek inside. A group of men was gathered in one corner of the floor. Three of them were bowing their heads to a large-built man.

They weren’t wearing suits—just polo shirts and slacks, without ties. I guess this was what they called "cool biz" attire.

"Straighten your back and fix your posture. Think carefully about how the other person sees you. Always strive to leave the best impression possible!"

"Yes, sir!"

...This looked like a new employee training session. Maybe this was just a normal company after all. Alright, I should check the lower floors next.

"Listen up! You’re pretending to be bank employees and police officers. Always be polite and act with confidence! Just because you’re scamming a bunch of old geezers doesn’t mean you can let your guard down!"

"Yes, sir!"

……………Huh?

"The elderly have been getting smarter lately. If they seem even a little suspicious, pull out immediately. And don’t get so caught up in your act that you forget to watch your surroundings. There was an idiot who got arrested because a real cop was nearby!"

"Yes, sir!"

…Looks like I just found the fraud group’s headquarters. So, this was their new employee training…
