Beep, beep.

Once again, the communication magic tool created by the Great Mage rang twice. Two rings meant that an accident had occurred within my reachable area.

"Excuse me, despite the current situation, I have an urgent matter to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. Oh, and please keep this magic a secret."

I activated teleportation magic. Come to think of it, this was the first time I’d shown teleportation magic to Sara and the others. Well, with these three, it shouldn’t be an issue. But having to return to Japan despite this chaotic situation is a bigger problem.

Fwoosh.

"Lo-Lord Masayoshi!? He disappeared all of a sudden!?"

"Th-that magic just now... could it be teleportation magic?"

"Master Masayoshi and marriage... Master Masayoshi and marriage... Master Masayoshi and marriage..."

I teleported back to the Great Mage's house.

"Hoo!"

"Thanks, Fūsuke."

After being greeted by Fūsuke, I passed through the door and returned to Japan. I quickly checked my smartphone for messages from Mamoru. Putting on my usual suit, I had Fūsuke shrink down and perch on my head. Then, I teleported to the rooftop of the building closest to the accident site.

The accident site wasn’t far from the building. Using wind magic to create footholds, I ran through the air toward the scene. Naturally, I activated my stealth skill.

"...There it is."

Smoke was rising from the highway. According to Mamoru’s information, it was a pile-up accident involving seven or eight vehicles, severe enough for rescue teams to be dispatched.

As I got closer to the accident site, my danger detection skill reacted multiple times. It seemed the rescue teams hadn’t arrived yet. Many crushed cars were piled up, and those who managed to escape the vehicles had evacuated to a safer distance.

For now, it didn’t seem like the evacuated people were seriously injured. I moved toward the vehicles where my danger detection skill showed the strongest reactions.

"...Ugh."

"High Heel!"

I carried a man, unconscious and bleeding from his head in the driver’s seat, away from the car and used healing magic on him. Watching his wounds heal and his pale face regain color, I confirmed his condition and headed to the next vehicle showing a strong reaction.

"............"

Whoa! This one’s in a worse state than the last. Not only are there severe external injuries, but the person is also unconscious, covered in blood, with their right arm bent at an unnatural angle.

Crunch.

Forcing open the car door, which was warped and wouldn’t budge, I carried the bloodied man to a safe distance and used healing magic. Given the amount of blood and the severity of the injuries, I left slight scars to avoid raising suspicions, just like with the previous man. Alright, next!

"Forget about me and get away already!"

"I can’t leave Yumi behind! Damn it, your leg’s completely stuck!"

At the center of the accident, a man was desperately trying to rescue a woman trapped in the crushed passenger seat of the car they’d rear-ended.

"Just go already! Help will be here soon, I’ll be fine!"

"How could I leave Yumi in a situation where the car could catch fire at any moment?!"

In a situation where the car could ignite and explode any second, the man risked his own life to save the woman. She must be someone very important to him.

Groan, groan.

Using the power inherited from the Great Mage, I forcibly tore off the crushed car’s metal paneling.

"Ouch! Ah, the front part loosened a little!"

"Really?! Then let’s give it another try. Here we go!"

"...I’m out! Ikkun, thank you so much!"

"Yumi, I’m so glad! Let’s get out of here quickly!"

The man carried the woman on his back and moved away from the accident site. I made sure to secretly cast healing magic on the woman as they left. Hmm, that’s definitely love. Actually, they already seem like a couple, so maybe it’s more like rekindling their feelings.

Alright, it looks like I’ve rescued everyone still trapped in vehicles. Just to be sure, I used my presence detection skill to confirm that no one else was at the accident site.

Whew, seems like it’s all under control now.

As I was healing the seriously injured among the evacuated people, ambulances and fire trucks arrived on the opposite side of the highway where the accident had occurred.

Ah, I see. This side of the road is blocked by the accident, so they had to come from the opposite direction, which probably took some time. There’s no one left to rescue, but just in case, I’ll stay a little longer in case something else happens.

"Hey, how’s it over there?"

"No one’s here. Let’s move to the next car!"

"Over here! Are you okay? We’re here to help!"

"Coming now!"

"............"

The rescue team was desperately trying to pull survivors from the crushed cars. However, my presence detection and danger detection skills didn’t react.

...Which means the person they’re rescuing now is already deceased.

This was the first time someone had died in one of these incidents. Of course, the lack of any response from my skills when I arrived at the scene meant this person had likely died instantly or shortly after the accident.

Traffic accidents, especially on highways, involve higher speeds than regular roads, so the chances of fatalities are higher.

Even though I knew in my head that no matter how quickly I reached the scene, there would be cases like this where I couldn’t make it in time, I couldn’t shake this feeling of frustration.

"Hoo!!"

"...Yeah, I know, there’s no point in dwelling on it."

Fūsuke, my summoned beast, seemed to understand my feelings. Growing slightly larger, he perched on my head, trying to comfort me.

After things settled down at the accident site, I finally left the scene.
