“Shin-dol, I’m not seeing things, right?”

“What the hell…?”

A boy who seemed to be the leader shouted from atop a patrol car, pointing a steel pipe at the officers exiting the Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit headquarters.

“What the fuck?! We’re juvenile delinquents, damn it! Come any closer and I’ll kill you all! Even if I kill you, I’ll only get two years!”

“That crazy little…?”

One of the kids was recording everything from a distance with his phone.

The team leader scowled at the mention of "juvenile delinquent."

“Being a juvenile delinquent must be some kind of nobility now… huh?”

“Huh?”

Just as the boy on top of the patrol car swung the steel pipe menacingly, Shin Haesu stepped forward.

Considering Haesu’s past records in subduing suspects—which sometimes left them disabled or dead—Oh Gaeng and the team leader rushed to stop him. But the boy swung first.

“Don’t come! I said don’t come, fuck!!”

Whoosh—Whack!

The steel pipe struck Haesu squarely on the head. The boy froze. His friends stopped moving. The Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit officers also stiffened.

Drip—

A stream of blood trickled down Haesu’s head. He raised his hand, brushed the pipe aside with the back of his hand, and spoke quietly.

“Obstruction of special government duty. Haru, subdue him.”

“Yes.”

Haru, who had been radiating killing intent ever since Haesu was struck, burst forward the moment he finished speaking.

Whoosh—

She leapt onto the patrol car, grabbed the steel-pipe-wielding boy by the nape, swept his legs, and threw him down.

Crash!

She stomped on his back and wrenched the arm holding the pipe backward.

Crack!

“Aaaagh!!”

Without a second thought, she snapped the fourteen-year-old’s arm. She didn’t stop there—jumping off the patrol car, she ran at another boy.

“D-Don’t come, don’t come!!”

The boy reflexively swung a baseball bat. Haru, a half beat faster, closed the distance, slipped inside his guard, grabbed the wrist holding the bat and his collar, pressed her back against his chest, and threw him over her shoulder.

Thud! Crunch—!

“Ugh!!”

To finish, she bent the arm holding the bat backward at the elbow, then darted toward the next boy.

Snap—Crack—!

“Aaaagh!”

“Uuugh! Mom!!”

The boys who had been wreaking havoc atop the patrol car were now writhing on the ground, screaming. Their arms or legs were bent grotesquely in the wrong directions.

Despite the fact that they had just been causing a scene as juvenile delinquents, they now looked genuinely pitiful.

“Ah.”

“Uh…?”

The team leader, Oh Gaeng, and the youngest member all widened their eyes and dropped their jaws unconsciously.

They were stunned by the dazzling movements and the brutality with which she mercilessly broke the limbs of the still-young boys.

Haesu was also slightly surprised—but for a different reason.

“She actually stopped at this point…”

Haesu had sensed killing intent from Haru when he started bleeding. At that level, he expected her to gouge out their eyes or snap their necks. He had planned to stop her and teach her how to subdue properly, but it turned out to be unnecessary.

“A remarkable improvement.”

Standing among the groaning boys, Haesu nodded at Haru, who had a proud ‘Did I do well?’ expression on her face.

The boy on the patrol car, Lee Jang-guk, was fourteen but hadn’t reached his birthday yet, so he was still protected under the juvenile delinquency law.

The reason they were on the patrol car was quite simple.

A few hours earlier, a report came in about boys drinking and being noisy at a playground. The responding officers disciplined them and contacted their parents, thinking the matter was resolved. But it had turned into this mess.

Upon investigation, it turned out Lee Jang-guk had an impressive criminal record—15 offenses, more than his age.

Haru tilted her head upon seeing his record.

“Why is someone with 15 prior convictions still roaming freely? If I had a child, I’d be terrified for them to go to school with this boy.”

She asked Haesu, but the team leader answered with a grimace.

“That’s just how the law works. There are even adults with more convictions than their age.”

“That is strange. I thought punishments were supposed to be heavier based on prior offenses. I don’t understand how this happens.”

“Exactly. This country is too good to live in. Too good and too equal—that’s the problem.”

“I agree. Now I understand why Mr. Haesu… Senior Shin resorts to excessive force.”

Oh Gaeng nodded at Haru’s comment.

“Right? That’s why our rookie here handled things so nicely today… Must be because you live in the same house—you’re starting to resemble each other?”

Oh Gaeng looked from Haru to Haesu, who avoided his gaze.

Haesu was subtly pricked by how ruthlessly Haru had broken limbs, almost like a mirror of himself.

The next day—

Bam!

“Bring out the bastard who did this to my son!!”

The Violent Crimes office door burst open as a burly man with both arms covered in snake tattoos stormed in.

In his right hand was the boy who should’ve been in the hospital, still in patient clothing, held by the scruff of his neck.

He’d only gotten a medical certificate before dragging his son to the station.

It was one of the scenarios they’d anticipated, so the Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit had already rushed over upon the major crimes division’s call.

“Oh-ho, so you’re the Violent Crimes bastards? Who messed up my kid like this, huh?! Which bastard?!”

Haru raised one hand and answered confidently.

“It was me.”

“…You? You did this? You broke my son’s arm with that hand? Is that true?”

Jang-guk, head bowed low, answered in a timid voice.

“…Yes.”

Unlike the day before, he was utterly deflated. It was easy to see what was going on.

A kid who smashed a patrol car out of anger over being reported to his parents, but turned meek as a lamb in front of his father. Ninety-nine percent chance he grew up being beaten.

As soon as he answered, the man raised a hand high.

“You filthy bitch, how dare you break my precious son’s arm!!”

Just before his large, callused hand could strike Haru’s face, her eyes flashed.

Snap—Thud—Crunch!

She leaned back slightly to dodge, pushed along the direction of the swing, spun him around, placed his arm over her shoulder, and twisted it back at the elbow while pressing down on his wrist.

“Aaaaagh!!”

His body was so thick with flesh that it didn’t break immediately, but the pain was enough to match it.

As the man groaned, unable to push away Haru’s frail body due to the sharp pain, Shin Haesu quietly observed him. Only after about five seconds did he step forward.

The other team members seemed to share the same sentiment, as none of them intervened either.

“That’s enough. Don’t break it.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Y-you fucking bitch!!”

As Haru released him, the man lashed out again. This time, Haesu grabbed his arm and forcibly folded both his hands together politely with sheer strength.

“If you cause a disturbance at the police station like your son did, you’ll end up just like him. Let’s start by looking at this.”

Haesu showed a video from the previous night in which Lee Jang-guk and his friends smashed a patrol car and hit Haesu on the head with a metal pipe.

Jang-guk’s father frowned at the footage, then pushed the phone away and shouted.

“I don’t care! I don’t know anything about that crap! What matters is that female officer broke four kids’ arms and legs! Hand over the settlement money—ten million won!!”

Now the real reason came out.

He had dragged the hospitalized child out just in time to try to extort money.

The team leader let out a dumbfounded laugh, while Haesu and Haru remained expressionless, not responding at all.

Infuriated by their lack of reaction, Jang-guk’s father pointed a finger at Haru and shouted.

“If you don’t pay up, I’ll report you to the police—no, the prosecution—and spread all of this online! You know how many reporters I know?”

“Yes, go ahead. You’ll just be adding a charge of blackmail to your son’s existing charge of obstruction of justice.”

“Shut up! Let’s see who wins this!”

Breathing heavily, he spun around and walked out. Lee Jang-guk looked dazedly between Haesu and his father, stunned by the mention of additional charges.

“What are you doing? Hurry up and come out!”

“Ah, yes.”

Once the father and son left, the police station finally fell silent. The Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit's team leader clicked his tongue as he watched their backs disappear through the window.

“Su-cheol, I just looked it up—Lee Jang-guk’s dad, Lee Gi-wang, that bastard’s got nine priors. He’s a real bottom-feeder among lowlifes.”

Team Leader Kwak nodded.

“Raised by a father like that… tsk, what a shame.”

“Yes, we need to properly straighten him out this time.”

“Exactly. The more pitiful they are, the tougher we have to be. Once he’s an adult, he’ll cause even worse trouble.”

“Yes, sir.”

But Lee Gi-wang moved even faster than the Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit expected.

The team proceeded with the planned charges against Lee Jang-guk and the other boys. In retaliation, Lee Gi-wang, after Haru refused to settle, filed a countercharge for excessive force and spread the incident online.

[Gangjin Police Beat a 14-Year-Old Child]

- His mother ran off early with another man, and I raised my son alone, working day and night as a single father.

Near the police station, my son was playing with sticks with his friends. The Gangjin police said it was dangerous and twisted my son’s arm. No—twisting doesn’t even cover it. It was broken completely, and he’s now in a cast.

Even his friends had their arms or legs broken. What kind of nonsense is this? Is this really South Korea?

I’m truly scared. How can police, who are supposed to uphold the law and protect citizens, be so merciless under the name of authority and torment children like this?

Now they’re ignoring our son’s injuries and filing charges for obstruction of justice. Is this what our country has come to?

┗ Wow, this is fucking crazy

┗ Cops being pigs as usual

┗ Typical bullies picking on the weak

┗ I knew it. Pigs like them don't deserve our taxes. Cut all their funding and let citizens run their own security squads.

┗ Seriously, if what’s written here is true, aren’t the cops totally insane? If it was dangerous, just take the sticks—not break kids’ arms. Are they psychos?

┗ Stay strong, sir. Justice will prevail. I want to help somehow. I know a journalist, so please contact me.

┗ [YourMoneyMyMoney] This is attorney Kim Sang-cheon. I believe I can assist you with this case. Please contact me. (Premium call: 1500155)

┗ Gangjin PD? Isn’t that where Detective Shin works? Was it Detective Shin? No way, not our hero!

With a provocative title, emotionally charged content, and supporting photos, the post uploaded to a community site spread rapidly.

Gangjin Police Station received a flood of inquiries about the incident.

The Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit members also checked the post.

“They say ignorance is bold… the video clearly shows everything….”

At Oh Gaeng’s comment, the team leader furrowed his brow and shook his head.

“Hmm… the problem is, the bastard really did cause trouble. For the truth to be properly understood, our video has to be even more sensational and widespread than that post. Even if Haesu was hit on the head with a metal pipe, and that could justify a non-indictment, the public might not see it that way… if opinion splits 50/50, it becomes a major problem.”

“Ah… the footage of middle schoolers destroying a patrol car is pretty shocking, though….”

“Hmm….”

Haesu narrowed his eyes as he lifted a dumbbell. Though he had acted within orders, he felt uneasy about possibly causing trouble for Haru and the station.

He hadn’t anticipated Lee Jang-guk’s father to be so relentless. He regretted not breaking both the man’s arms so he couldn’t type.

“Let’s publish a rebuttal article right away. I’ll handle it.”

“Ah, Daeseong?”

“Yes, I’ll get some help.”

“Alright. Tell them to spread it as fast as possible.”

“Understood.”

Shin Haesu asked Ahn Seo-eun to publish a rebuttal article with all the videos of the incident at the station attached.

However, even with clear footage backing the report, because the article appeared biased, netizens these days did not readily accept it. Some even speculated that there must have been a reason for the kids to attack the police.

As the team leader had feared, public opinion was split almost evenly.

Meanwhile, in a corner of a room, a boy was reviewing all the materials related to the incident.

Jeong Yeong-su widened his eyes as he looked at a picture of Haru on the Gangjin Police Station homepage.

A familiar face was wearing a uniform.

“So, this goddess joined the Violent Crimes Special Investigation Unit… and she’s been wronged like this… That punk and his dad need a little re-education, huh?”

Yeong-su rapidly tapped the keyboard and mouse, like he was playing a piano.
