“...Fuaaah.”

When I opened my eyes, I was inside the tent. Oh right, we were traveling by carriage to the royal capital, and last night we had set up our tents by the river to sleep. Inside the same tent, Dolph and Lange were still asleep.

I quietly slipped out of the tent, careful not to wake them. The sun had just begun to rise, and its light was dazzlingly bright.

“Wan!”

“Whoa!?”

I nearly let out a loud voice in surprise. Right in front of the tent stood a silver wolf, larger than a normal one, with a stunningly beautiful silver coat.

“That startled me. Good morning, Sylph.”

“Wan!”

Sylph was the Silver Wolf summoned by Ferry, an A-rank adventurer. I had the same thought yesterday when she summoned the Sleipnir, Sleip—Ferry’s naming sense for her summoned beasts is really simple.

Well, the summoned beasts themselves seem to like their names, and both Sleip and Sylph are friendly and well-behaved. I had asked Ferry yesterday if I could touch their fur, and it had been incredibly pleasant to the touch.

Seeing affectionate creatures like them makes me understand why people keep pets. Back in my world, I lived alone, returning to an empty home after work, so I had always longed for a life with a pet.

“Thanks for keeping watch. I was able to sleep soundly thanks to you.”

Back in my world, I used to go camping almost every weekend, but this was my first time sleeping outside since coming here. Normally, I’d have to worry about bandits or monsters in the middle of the night, but thanks to Sylph keeping watch, I was able to sleep without worry.

“Alright, I’ll start making breakfast, so just wait a bit.”

“Wan!”

He approached me more like a dog than a wolf, so I gave him a pat on the head. His soft, fluffy fur was sleek and had a wonderful texture. He must have been lonely staying up all night on watch.

Well then, the others would be waking up soon, so I should go wash my face in the river and start preparing breakfast. I had already moved the ingredients from Ferry’s storage magic to the carriage yesterday.

The river water was ice-cold, instantly waking me up. That’s one of the best things about camping by the river. Also, the air in this world is so clear that the stars in the night sky are breathtaking.

There’s something really soothing about staring at a campfire while gazing up at the starry sky. Camping outdoors like this once in a while is really fun. That said, since I don’t have any combat abilities, solo camping is completely out of the question. Maybe I should ask Berna and Ferry if we can do this again sometime.

“It smells absolutely wonderful!”

“I’m so hungry…”

“Good morning. Breakfast is ready to eat anytime now.”

Berna and Ferry had woken up. The others were already up as well, helping with the breakfast preparations. Since breakfast was nearly ready, I was debating whether to ask Lilia or Angel to wake the last two people still sleeping.

“This looks delicious. Is this bread that has been toasted?”

“It smells like nicely baked bread.”

“Yes. It’s called a hot sandwich. You put ingredients inside bread and toast the outside slightly.”

Now that I think about it, this was probably the first time for both of them to have a hot sandwich. Lilia, Lange, and I ate them often for breakfast, and Fia, Dolph, and Angel had eaten them a few times as part of the staff meal at the outdoor shop.

“Oh my, this is absolutely delicious! The outside is crispy, and inside there’s meat, cheese, and eggs! The slightly melted cheese is just irresistible!”

“This one has sweet fruit jam inside. It’s warm, sweet, and so good!”

Berna was eating a sandwich filled with smoked meat, cheese, and scrambled eggs. The smoked meat had been seasoned with outdoor spices for a strong flavor, so I had only needed to add a bit more spice to make it taste great.

Ferry’s sandwich was filled with a jam made from a fruit similar to strawberries that I had bought in town. Actually, jam often tastes better warm than cold. Just toasting it in a hot sandwich makes it completely different from simply spreading cold jam on bread.

In fact, the quality of the bread available in Al-Flare wasn’t that great, so making it into hot sandwiches made it much tastier.

“This one with vegetables and sweet-and-spicy meat is really good too.”

“The one with vegetables and meat is delicious!”

Lilia’s hot sandwich was filled with meat grilled in yakiniku sauce, along with lettuce and onions. The sweetness and spice of the meat paired perfectly with the crispness of the lettuce and onions.

Fia’s sandwich had smoked meat and spinach stir-fried in butter and fish sauce. Generally, strong flavors work best in hot sandwiches. Plus, the fish sauce’s slight fishy smell wasn’t noticeable once it was toasted.

In addition, I had made a total of six different types of hot sandwiches, including one with potatoes and cheese, and another with sautéed mushrooms. Originally, I hadn’t planned on making so many, but since everyone had woken up and helped me, I ended up making more than expected.

Thankfully, Ferry’s storage magic allowed us to store the extras. Since we still had a long journey to the royal capital, we could eat them as snacks or for breakfast on another day.
