Selling Outdoor Spice

Update:

Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now, we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.

As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:

"Now then, thank you all for lining up at our outdoor shop so early in the morning today!"

Even today, a large number of customers are lined up in front of the shop from the early morning. Usually, about ten people line up in front of the outdoor shop, but today, nearly fifty customers have gathered in front of this convenience store-sized shop. The reason for this is that we had announced several new products would be available starting today.

With the outdoor shop's ability leveling up to level 5, many new products became available for purchase, but so far, there haven't been any items that have had a major impact like a compass or a map. That's why, little by little, we decided to introduce new products.

"Let's get straight to it! Here is our shop's latest highlight product! We proudly present our recommended item—the 'Outdoor Spice'!"

"Oooooh!"

As I held up the outdoor spice, which had been transferred into a wooden tube, the customers reacted with exaggerated surprise. Our shop's customers seem to understand the importance of playing along.

However, this time, the outdoor spice is truly a product worth recommending. Usually, when introducing a new food product, we offer samples, but since outdoor spice is a seasoning, it's difficult to provide a taste test as it is.

That's why I came up with this effective way to promote the outdoor spice!

"Now, if you're adventurers of this town, you should be quite familiar with this dried meat, right?"

"…Ah, yeah, I used to eat that dried meat a lot back in the day."

"Now that you mention it, before this shop started selling stick ramen and alpha rice, I used to eat that all the time…"

"Sure, it's cheap, but the smell and taste are a bit much…"

It seems that the beginner adventurers based in this town know more about this dried meat than I do. This dried meat is very cheap and has a long shelf life, making it a staple emergency ration and preserved food for rookie adventurers.

It was the same dried meat that Roya and the others gave me when I first arrived in this town. While it's inexpensive, the taste isn't particularly good—actually, the smell is so strong that it verges on being inedible.

Recently, with our shop selling stick ramen and alpha rice, more people have switched over to those options. Still, because this dried meat is extremely cheap, adventurers who are struggling financially continue to buy it.

"This is that same dried meat, lightly roasted over a fire. As you know, when you heat it up a little, the smell improves slightly."

Roya and the others had told me that roasting the dried meat makes the smell somewhat more tolerable. Now that fire starters have become more widespread, more adventurers have started lighting fires to cook their lunch.

"Sure, roasting it makes it slightly better, but…"

"Even so, the smell is still pretty tough to handle…"

It looks like the customers already know this from experience.

"And now, we sprinkle this outdoor spice over the roasted dried meat… Here, give it a try and see how it tastes."

Fia-chan, Angel, and the others handed out samples of the roasted dried meat, cut into small pieces and sprinkled with outdoor spice, to the customers in line.

"Spice, huh? So it's a seasoning… but the smell is still lingering…"

"Hmm, even if you put something on that dried meat… Wait, this isn't bad!"

"Really! The smell is still there a little, but it’s actually edible now!"

The outdoor spice contains multiple herbs and seasonings, including pepper and garlic, which help complement the strong gamey odor of meats like this dried meat.

…Well, to be honest, the smell of this dried meat is so intense that it couldn't be entirely eliminated, but it’s still much better than eating it as is.

"This outdoor spice is a blend of various spices and seasonings, making it a versatile seasoning that pairs well with meat, vegetables, fish, and more. Of course, it’s great not only for this dried meat but also for grilled meats—just a sprinkle can significantly upgrade your usual meals!"

"Wow, that's amazing! If it can make this dried meat taste this decent, I wonder how good it’ll be on properly grilled meat!"

"Not just meat, but fish and vegetables too? Sounds like it could be useful for regular home cooking as well!"

"Recently, a special magical method for growing spices has been developed, causing the prices of spices and seasonings to drop. Because of this, we are offering this outdoor spice for just five silver coins! Furthermore, just like our other products, if you bring back the wooden tube, your next refill will only cost four silver coins. Whether for everyday cooking or an occasional treat, we highly recommend trying this outdoor spice!"

"Oh, getting this much spice for just five silver coins is quite a deal!"

"So that’s why spice prices have been going down lately!"

"It’s a bit expensive, but there’s a lot in here, and if I bring back the tube, it's practically four silver coins! I’ve got to try this!"

The outdoor spice itself costs only two silver coins, so after subtracting the cost of the wooden tube, we make a two-silver-coin profit per sale. It still feels a little pricey, but since spice prices are likely to drop further, we’ll consider lowering the price even more in the future.
