In the middle of a modern restroom where no one was present, Seo Jung-woo suddenly appeared. The air displaced by his arrival made the restroom door rattle loudly.
Seo Jung-woo quickly assessed his surroundings.
A clean restroom, white urinals, and a large mirror came into view.
“Whoa. That surprised me. I teleported into a restroom? Well, at least it’s not right in front of a giant monster.”
To confirm that this was indeed a real restroom, he lifted the faucet handle at the sink. Clear water gushed out.
“But where is this place? Why does a restroom smell so nice?”
Taking advantage of the running water, he washed his hands while analyzing the current situation.
“Judging by the sudden change in my surroundings, my newly awakened skill is definitely teleportation.”
He originally had two skills. Now, he had awakened a third one.
The only way to confirm what the awakened skill did was to use it. And the moment he activated it, he ended up in this restroom.
That was the problem.
“The teleportation ability users on TV said this skill clearly operates in three steps: skill activation, destination selection, and actual movement.”
Teleportation was a rare skill, and those who awakened it were extremely few. He had gathered information from TV and the internet.
“So why did I move here the moment I activated the skill? Where did the middle step go?”
The instant he triggered the skill, he was transported to this location.
“If I can’t set coordinates, is this useless? No, wait. At least it could work as an emergency escape. Ugh.”
It was a bit disappointing.
“No way… is this a skill that only teleports me to restrooms? Would that actually be better for an escape tool?”
He had a personality that leaned towards seeing things positively.
“Yeah. Better a restroom than dropping into the middle of a monster horde. Definitely.”
This time, he took a more relaxed look around the restroom.
“Wow, this place is really clean and nice.”
Admiring the restroom’s cleanliness, he opened the door to step outside.
It was a bank.
“Oh, a bank restroom? Since when are bank restrooms this clean… huh?”
All the bank employees and customers were crouched on the floor with their hands raised above their heads. Standing in front of them was a man holding a hunting shotgun. His face was covered with a mask.
Seo Jung-woo immediately understood what was happening.
“A bank robbery?”
Only then did the robber notice Seo Jung-woo and curse.
“Damn it! I told you to check the restroom properly!”
Seo Jung-woo couldn’t understand why this bank robber was using a shotgun.
“A single-shot shotgun? Are you out of your mind? You’re robbing a bank with that?”
From his knowledge, someone trying to rob a bank with a single-shot shotgun had to be suicidal. A shotgun could only fire one shot at a time. Usually, before the second round could even be loaded, bank security would turn the robber into a pincushion.
The robber looked flustered.
“Are you crazy? This is a real gun! A real one! It’s not a toy!”
Seo Jung-woo knew it was a gun.
But it still felt strange.
“Why don’t any of the bank employees have even a single handgun?”
No matter how much he thought about it, it didn’t make sense.
“The bank robber only has a shotgun, and all the employees are unarmed?”
He checked the customers as well. Not a single person was carrying a firearm.
In his world, if there were ten people, there should be more than ten guns. That was common sense.
Seo Jung-woo questioned the hostages in a bewildered tone.
“Wait. Seriously, why? Hey, mister, ma’am, and everyone else—do you all have a death wish? Why isn’t anyone carrying a gun?”
The people who had been cowering in fear of the shotgun now stared at Seo Jung-woo as if he were insane.
‘Who is this lunatic?’
‘He’s wearing a mask, so I thought he was one of them, but… he’s not?’
Seo Jung-woo was wearing a tactical face mask.
The bank robber turned to him.
“A gun? What are you talking about?”
“When you leave the house, you should at least carry a handgun on your belt, right? And if things seem dangerous, you should have an assault rifle too.”
He couldn’t understand the sheer terror on the people's faces.
“You’re telling me this many people let themselves be subdued by just one guy? And that guy is only holding a single-shot shotgun?”
As he muttered complaints, he suddenly paused. Something about the bank’s interior seemed off.
“Wait, there aren’t any bulletproof glass shields at the counters? What kind of bank is this?”
The hostages remained frozen in shock.
Up until now, the bank robber had been pointing his gun at the customers. But hearing Seo Jung-woo’s strange words, he grew irritated.
Still aiming at the hostages, he turned slightly to face Seo Jung-woo.
“Hey! Quit spouting nonsense and get over here on your knees!”
“Knees? Are you out of your mind?”
The hostages suddenly realized something.
‘Oh, he’s not one of them.’
‘But… he might be crazy.’
Seo Jung-woo casually walked toward the bank robber and asked,
“Hey, I’m a little confused about this situation. What the hell is wrong with this place?”
The robber, enraged, swung his shotgun toward Seo Jung-woo.
“You bastard, you’re dead—”
The moment the shotgun barrel moved, Seo Jung-woo reacted instantly. It was pure reflex. He drew a handgun from beneath his clothes with his right hand. His movements were incredibly fast—too fast.
In a split second, he aimed his gun at the robber. Meanwhile, the robber had only turned his body halfway, and his shotgun was still pointed in the wrong direction.
‘What the hell? Why is he so slow?’
Seo Jung-woo glanced at the stunned bank employees behind the robber and silently criticized them.
‘Come on, people. When his gun moves away from me, that’s your chance to attack. You all have daggers hidden in your clothes, right? Throw them!’
The robber’s movements were just as pathetic.
‘At that speed, even goblins would kill him.’
As Seo Jung-woo prepared to pull the trigger, he hesitated.
‘Wait, he’s not even wearing a bulletproof vest? Is he broke?’
If he pulled the trigger as it was, that robber would die. If he had a tanking skill, he wouldn’t die from a single bullet, but judging by how slow he was, it didn’t seem like he had one.
No matter how much his world revolved around fighting monsters, laws still applied when fighting humans. Self-defense was broadly recognized, but if he killed a robber, he would have to undergo a police investigation.
Besides, capturing him alive would earn a bigger bounty. If he had accomplices, they had to be caught too, so the police preferred suspects to be taken in alive.
Seo Jung-woo raised the muzzle of his gun slightly from the robber’s chest to his shoulder and pulled the trigger.
With a flash, a 9mm armor-piercing bullet was fired from the pistol. Against mid-sized monsters, it wouldn’t be effective, but a pistol was originally a basic defensive weapon for dealing with low-level monsters.
The bullet pierced cleanly through the robber’s shoulder just as he was turning around.
“Aaaagh!”
The bank robber screamed and collapsed. The shotgun slipped from his hands and floated briefly in the air. The deafening gunshot echoed throughout the bank.
Before the sound fully faded, Seo Jung-woo fired another shot at the robber. The armor-piercing bullet struck his leg.
“Aargh!”
‘Gotta make sure he can’t run so I can collect the bounty.’
He stretched out his left hand and caught the falling shotgun with a snap.
Still aiming his pistol at the robber, Seo Jung-woo inspected the shotgun.
He was disappointed.
“Ugh, seriously? It’s just a plain shotgun with no modifications or enhancements? Lame.”
He slung the shotgun over his shoulder.
“Well, I can still sell it for a few bucks.”
Only then did the people inside the bank realize what had just happened. Those who had been cowering with their heads down all looked up.
The bank employees whispered among themselves as they stared at Seo Jung-woo.
“H-he’s on our side, right?”
“Did he come to rescue us?”
“But he’s not wearing a police uniform.”
“He has a gun, though.”
“Maybe he’s special forces! He was so fast!”
“Yeah! I didn’t even see him draw his gun.”
“It was over in an instant—just bang bang, and that was it.”
To their ears, the two gunshots had sounded almost simultaneous.
Seo Jung-woo looked down at the robber and asked, “Hey, with those slow movements and just a shotgun for a weapon, what were you thinking? How did you even get the idea to rob a— Huh? This guy passed out? Why’s he so fragile?”
He was dumbfounded.
“It was just two pistol shots. I didn’t even aim for any vital spots.”
Suddenly, he extended his arm and pulled the trigger. A 9mm armor-piercing bullet tore through the shoulder of another bank robber who had just emerged from the vault.
While he was at it, he shot the robber’s leg as well.
More gunshots rang out, hammering the eardrums of everyone inside. As the noise faded, the second robber collapsed forward, screaming.
“Aaaaargh!”
Seo Jung-woo possessed both a detection skill and a shooting skill. Before the bank robber had even emerged, his detection skill had sensed the hostility, and as soon as the robber appeared, his shooting skill placed precise shots into his shoulder and leg.
He scanned the interior of the bank. No visible threats, and nothing else registered in his detection skill.
“So it was just these two?”
Seo Jung-woo easily vaulted over a bank table. The second robber had already lost consciousness.
He checked the robber’s shotgun.
“Ugh, another plain old shotgun.”
Next, he searched the robber’s pockets and found a wallet. Without opening it, he stuffed it into his own pocket.
He walked back to the first robber and rummaged through his pockets as well.
“What the hell? This guy doesn’t even have a wallet?”
Then, he suddenly became aware of the stares around him.
“What?” he asked.
“Uh… uh…?”
“Is there a problem with me collecting some loot?”
Most of the time, the right to loot belonged to the one who hunted the monster. Handling high-profile criminals like bank robbers followed a similar rule. Generally, the hunter who subdued the perpetrator had the right to take any ordinary weapons or wallets as spoils.
When Seo Jung-woo questioned them as if daring them to object, the people around him frantically shook their heads.
A man who had just shot down two armed robbers, still holding a pistol in his right hand, was asking if they had a problem with him taking some loot. Who would dare to say yes?
Seo Jung-woo tucked his pistol into his coat and slung both shotguns over his shoulder.
These weak, single-shot shotguns wouldn’t sell at his usual weapons dealer, but he knew places that would buy them.
Then he asked, “By the way, where am I?”
He was curious about where his teleport had taken him.
‘Well, at least it’s still my country.’
One of the bank employees immediately answered.
“This is the Yongsan branch of KCT Bank!”
“Ugh, I didn’t even teleport that far. That makes it useless as an escape skill. Did I seriously draw the short straw?”
The place where he had first activated the skill was also in Yongsan.
Muttering his complaints, Seo Jung-woo pushed open the bank doors and stepped outside.
As soon as he did, he shouted loudly.
“Whoa! Namsan Tower?!”
There it was, the Seoul Tower standing tall atop Namsan(TL/N: Namsan Tower or N Seoul Tower is a popular Landmark).
For a moment, Seo Jung-woo just stared, dumbfounded. Then, suddenly, he burst out.
“Why the hell is Namsan Tower on Namsan?!”
This didn’t make sense.
He blinked and looked again. The Seoul Tower still stood proudly atop Namsan.
“Why can I see that? Am I hallucinating? No way. My mental resistance is way too high for some weak illusion trick. That’s impossible! Then what the hell is that?! How is Namsan Tower on Namsan?!”
As a child, he had visited Namsan Tower. Back then, it wasn’t called Seoul Tower—it was just Namsan Tower. But that tower had been destroyed by a monster attack. In its place, a new monster defense tower should have been built.
Everyone inside the bank had first assumed Seo Jung-woo was an accomplice of the robbers because of his tactical face mask. Then, after watching him shoot the robbers down, they thought he was some kind of special police force sent to rescue them.
But now, after firing four shots and looting the robbers’ wallets, he had walked out of the bank and was screaming about why Namsan Tower was on Namsan.
Since the bank’s doors were still wide open, everyone inside could see and hear him clearly.
They all had the same thought.
‘What the hell? Is he crazy?’
