The team leader from the neighboring team approached Seo Jung-woo with a tense expression.
“Hey, Seo Jung-woo. Do you have any hunch?”
“I can’t tell just from these documents.”
The team leader let out a deep sigh.
“Haah. Even for you, it’s impossible with just the documents, huh.”
“I’ll investigate based on the information in them.”
“Alright. Please, I’m counting on you.”
The detectives dispersed outside.
Seo Jung-woo also left the station like the others but then slipped into an alley without CCTV.
“There’s no time to investigate on this side.”
The cooldown had just reset.
Seo Jung-woo activated his Parallel Dimension Teleportation skill. The scenery before his eyes changed in an instant.
Now, he had 24 hours to work with.
He opened the documents.
He had skimmed through them earlier, but nothing had stood out.
Here, he could analyze them thoroughly.
“Sagori gang. Could these guys exist in this world too?”
He knew that the same people lived in both worlds. But Sagori gang was an organization, not an individual.
“Since it’s a newly formed group, they might be using a different name here.”
Seo Jung-woo checked the organization hierarchy that the police had mapped out.
“Three groups are suspected to be above Sagori gang. We still don’t know which one is behind them.”
He rolled up the documents and stuffed them into his pocket.
“This kind of investigation is right up Sora’s alley. Oh, the Sora from this side.”
On the other side, Seo Sora was a university student and singer, but on this side, she was not only a sniper but also an expert in gathering information.
Seo Sora supported security operations at important facilities using her long-range surveillance skills. It wasn’t an everyday job—she only took requests when needed.
Individuals sometimes requested her for personal protection, but she rarely accepted those unless they were special cases.
When Seo Jung-woo arrived home, Seo Sora greeted him cheerfully.
“Oh! You’re ba—”
She paused mid-sentence. Seo Jung-woo realized why.
“Oh, right.”
He had nothing on him but a few documents.
On the floor, several empty snack bags were scattered. Lately, Seo Sora had become addicted to snacks from the other world.
He understood why. She had grown up eating only synthetic flour and synthetic rice processed from chlorella. Now that she had tasted real, delicious snacks, it was only natural she couldn’t control herself. That’s why Seo Jung-woo also snacked constantly when he was on the other side.
“I had to rush over because of an urgent situation, so I couldn’t buy any snacks.”
“It’s okay. I still have plenty left.”
Almost everything had been eaten, leaving only crumbs.
“And that’s not what I was worried about. You came here unarmed? Not even a handgun?”
“It just happened.”
“That’s dangerous if it happens again. We need a plan.”
Seo Jung-woo felt uneasy. She said it wasn’t about the snacks, but he could see the disappointment in her eyes.
‘The Sora from the other side would be cursing me out in this situation… She grew up in such a tough world that she’s learned to endure too much.’
“I’ll definitely bring some tomorrow. I’ll buy a lot.”
Seo Sora smiled brightly.
“Okay.”
“That’s for tomorrow. For now, let’s do an investigation.”
“What is it?”
Seo Jung-woo handed over the documents. They contained information about Sagori gang and the organizations suspected to be backing them.
“A detective went missing on the other side. He was investigating these guys. It looks like they got to him.”
“What were his weapons? How intense was the battle? Was he attacked while in his patrol car? What kind of vehicle assault weapons were used? Bombs? Anti-tank missiles? Have they analyzed the wreckage?”
“No.”
“Huh?”
“I told you, that world isn’t like this. Detectives don’t even carry guns.”
“What? Do detectives over there have a death wish?”
“It’s strange, but that’s just how it is.”
“Oh… I got confused for a moment since you came here unarmed. When you mentioned a missing detective, I jumped to conclusions.”
“Anyway.”
Seo Jung-woo pointed at the names of the gang members in the documents.
“I want to find out what these guys are up to in this world.”
Seo Sora placed the documents into a multifunction printer and made copies.
“I love this printer! It even copies documents.”
Seo Jung-woo had brought that multifunction printer from the other world. It was so cheap that he wondered how they even made a profit selling it at that price.
“It has zero EMP protection, so if a Gate opens nearby, it’ll break instantly. But since it’s cheap, just use it until it stops working.”
After finishing the copies, she packed the documents into her bag.
“I’ll check on the facility’s equipment and make some calls.”
She had already taken on a security request from a major facility, but she had adjusted her reporting time to match Seo Jung-woo’s arrival.
After Seo Sora left, Seo Jung-woo cleaned up the snack bags from the floor.
“She doesn’t clean up after eating snacks, just like the other Sora.”
In the other world, Seo Sora even scattered snack crumbs all over the floor as she ate.
He sat on the sofa and read the documents.
The detective from the other team had disappeared while investigating a missing persons case.
“There are two other missing persons cases in different police jurisdictions that show similarities to ours?”
The missing persons had different genders, living environments, and occupations. The only commonality was that they were in their twenties.
“What’s the similarity?”
That part wasn’t written down.
“Why did he suspect Sagori gang?”
That wasn’t in the documents either.
“Did he keep the real secrets elsewhere, or were they only in his head?”
He tilted his head.
“How did Sagori gang find out the detective was onto them?”
Seo Sora called.
“Hey, Sora.”
– There’s a guild overlapping with Sagori gang.
“Which guild?”
When a few people gathered to hunt monsters, it was called a team. When two or more teams grouped together, they formed a guild.
– The Wolf Fang guild. It’s a small-scale guild with two teams. Not all members overlap, but the key figures do.
“They’re not the type to fight monsters normally, are they?”
– “No. This guild is on the restricted access list for this facility. If they try to force their way in, they are to be shot on sight.”
“Then they’re a criminal organization.”
After the monster invasion, many gangsters registered their organizations as hunter guilds.
Not to fight monsters. But because it made their activities more convenient. guilds formed in the 21st century are difficult to distinguish from gangsters based on registration documents alone.
However, the fact that the Wolf Fang guild was on the restricted access list for key facilities meant they had already caused multiple incidents, and the police also considered them a criminal organization.
“Where are those guys now?”
Seo Jung-woo asked, hoping that if he tracked them down, he might uncover some clues. But the answer he got was unexpected.
– “They’re gone.”
“Huh?”
– “They attacked someone recently but got completely wiped out instead.”
“Who were they targeting?”
– “That hasn’t been revealed. But it wasn’t a monster. They were shot to death.”
In this world, such events aren’t uncommon.
Gangsters openly carry guns, so they don’t fear the police and frequently commit murders.
But in this world, even an ordinary office worker carries a pistol at their waist when they go to work. Sometimes, an unassuming shop owner turns out to be an awakened ability user.
Because of this, gangsters are usually careful about who they pick fights with.
However, their judgment isn’t always perfect. Occasionally, they misjudge someone, launch an attack, and end up getting annihilated by a hunter who had been hiding their true strength.
Seo Jung-woo clicked his tongue.
“Tsk. If they’re all dead, there’s no way to investigate.”
– “Not all of them. Their boss survived.”
Seo Jung-woo’s expression brightened.
“Really? What’s his status now?”
– “He’s now part of the White Shark guild.”
Seo Jung-woo tilted his head.
“White Shark? I’ve heard of them.”
– “They’re on the police blacklist.”
A guild being on the blacklist meant that even the police recognized them as a ruthless organization that needed to be taken down but couldn’t act immediately due to various reasons.
South Korea still maintained relatively good public order. At the very least, the basic legal system was intact. Meanwhile, some countries in America, Africa, and Asia had completely fallen into anarchy.
“What’s the characteristic of the White Shark guild?”
– “Their guild master is strong.”
“How strong?”
– “He has detection and marksmanship skills like you. That makes assassination difficult. The synergy of those two skills also makes him formidable in close combat against multiple opponents.”
“So that’s why the police haven’t touched them.”
The police didn’t even have enough manpower to deal with the more manageable criminal guilds.
– “But his name is on the documents you gave me.”
“Who is it?”
– “Jeon Chang-soo.”
Seo Jung-woo checked the documents. The police suspected that the Sagori Gang had a bigger organization backing them. They had narrowed it down to three possible groups. One of them was the Knife Gang.
And Jeon Chang-soo was the enforcer for the Knife Gang.
‘In the other world, he’s part of the White Shark guild, but here he’s with the Knife Gang.’
“How many people in the documents are affiliated with the White Shark guild?”
– “Seven. But their boss is different from what’s listed. Jeon Chang-soo is the guild master.”
“What about the original boss?”
– “That person is listed as missing.”
Seo Jung-woo quickly reached a conclusion.
“Jeon Chang-soo must have awakened combat skills and taken over the organization. He probably killed the boss and fed him to monsters.”
– “That’s highly likely.”
“In any case, they’re the ones behind this. Which means that guy and Jeon Chang-soo are together.”
Seo Sora sounded worried.
– “The White Shark guild is strong enough that even the police can’t easily take them down. Jeon Chang-soo’s skills are similar to yours. Your skill level and proficiency are probably higher, but attacking them alone is too dangerous. We’ll need support.”
“Don’t worry. I’m not after the White Shark.”
“Huh?”
“I’m after Knife.”
A day later, Seo Jung-woo used his Parallel Dimension Teleport skill to return to this world.
But he didn’t appear in the usual abandoned construction site.
Instead, he arrived in a completely different neighborhood, between narrow alleyways. The moment he appeared, he checked his surroundings.
“No CCTV, no witnesses.”
He had chosen his teleportation location using a map app on his smartphone. Since he had downloaded the map data in advance, he was able to determine the coordinates of this alley even while in the other world.
He moved to the end of the alley. Across the street stood an old, rundown building.
“That’s the hideout of the White Shark guild—no, the Knife Gang.”
The police records stated so.
In the other world, the White Shark guild occupied three different buildings, all fortified with reinforced concrete and composite armor plating. Their hideouts were veritable fortresses, capable of withstanding attacks from monsters, police, and rival guilds alike.
But in this world, the Knife Gang was based in a single, three-story rundown building.
Seo Jung-woo checked his gear. He wore a combat protective mask that covered his face, along with goggles for eye protection. Just those were enough to fully conceal his identity.
Over his suit, he wore a long coat. The coat’s inner lining was made of thinly processed monster hide. While it wouldn’t stop bullets, it could at least deflect glancing blade attacks.
After confirming his surroundings, he crossed the two-lane road.
There was no one outside the building. Instead, he spotted a CCTV camera.
He opened the door and stepped inside. A bell jingled from the door.
The three men sitting at a table inside turned their heads. One of them looked him up and down.
“Where are you from?”
Seo Jung-woo asked.
“Is Jeon Chang-soo here?”
In the other world, Jeon Chang-soo was the White Shark guild’s master, but in this world, he was the Knife Gang’s enforcer.
The gangsters’ attitude became slightly more respectful.
“Do you know Chang-soo hyung well?”
“I don’t.”
“What?”
