Update:

Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now, we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.

As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:

The result of appraising the guild staff member in front of me looked like this. Now I could see statuses such as HP, MP, and Strength. If MP reaches zero, does that mean they can’t use magic anymore? And if HP hits zero, do they die?

I doubt it’s that simple, but it could serve as a reference. Strength, Endurance, and Agility are easy enough to understand, but what’s the difference between Mental Strength and Magic Power? Maybe they affect magic defense and spell potency? The biggest mystery, though, is Luck. I have no idea what it influences.

“...Is something wrong?”

“Ah, no, it’s nothing. Umm, I wanted to ask where in the Empire I can find a town known for delicious seafood.”

I’ll think about the status mechanics later. Right now, I need to focus on why I came to the guild.

After checking with the guild staff, I learned that if we take a shared carriage southwest for about nine days, we’ll reach the imperial capital. From there, another day south would bring us to a port town known for its fishing industry.

Apparently, they even serve raw fish as sashimi. That’s definitely worth a visit.

After thanking the staff and stepping away from the counter, I started appraising every person I came across in the guild. However, no one had higher stats than the guild staff member I first checked. Since I don’t know their adventurer ranks, it’s hard to judge what level of stats correspond to which rank.

Speaking of which, what kind of stats does Rio have?

“Whoa.”

“...Something wrong?”

Rio tilted her head at my reaction.

“No, it’s just that my appraisal skill leveled up just now.”

“Oh, really? Congrats!”

“Thanks.”

I then told Rio the results of my appraisal. At some point, her occupation had changed to "Sage," but the text still appeared faint. That probably means her aptitude for it is low, but I still don’t understand the exact mechanics behind this. Looking at her magic-heavy stats, she seems like she’d be a perfect fit for the role, though.

“Come to think of it, my master did mention it before. My magic power growth rate is a hundred times the normal rate, right?”

“Yeah, but your mental strength is also pretty high. Maybe related stats influence each other?”

“That’s possible.”

Well, I don’t fully understand the system, so I’ll just accept it as it is.

“In any case, we were told to use these numbers as a reference but not to rely on them completely.”

“Yeah. That’s why my master never gave me specific numbers either…”

Apparently, the stats shown through appraisal don’t account for body enhancement or skill-based buffs. They represent an individual’s raw abilities. So, while they can serve as a baseline indicator of strength, directly comparing numbers isn’t very useful.

That said, it’s still a handy point of reference.

“What about your own stats, Shu?”

“Oh, I haven’t checked yet.”

Time to appraise myself.

Name: Shu Mizumoto

Race: Human

Occupation: Magic Brawler

Condition: Normal

Status:

  • HP: 42567
  • MP: 32980
  • Strength: 28465
  • Endurance: 26536
  • Agility: 28460
  • Dexterity: 31423
  • Mental Strength: 21087
  • Magic Power: 19807
  • Luck: 2411

“Oh? Ooooh!”

I’m not jobless anymore! The text is still faint, but I finally have an occupation! Maybe it’s because I specialize in close-quarters combat using gauntlets and magic. So if someone focuses on a specific skill set, a profession eventually appears? That makes sense.

“Wow, as expected from Shu.”

Rio nodded in admiration after hearing my stats. With my naturally high growth rate, it makes sense that my physical stats are slightly higher since I leave most of the magic to Rio.

“Wafuu.”

While Rio and I were discussing stats, Nir interrupted us.

Haha, you want to be appraised too? Alright, let’s see what you’ve got.

  • Magic Power: 4720

Ohh, those are some pretty high stats. I don’t know what other monsters’ stats look like, but for an S-rank monster, this seems about right.

“Hey, want to check out the guild’s training grounds?”

“Huh?”

I tilted my head at Rio’s sudden suggestion, but after hearing her reasoning, I nodded in agreement.

“If we observe some combat in the training area, we might get a better idea of how these stats relate to actual fighting ability.”

“Good point. Just looking at numbers doesn’t mean much, so let’s go check it out.”

With that, we decided to head to the training grounds attached to the guild.
