Temporary Part-Time Job

Update:

Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now, we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.

As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:

“A staff member who was supposed to accompany the live event the day after tomorrow has been hospitalized due to food poisoning. Fortunately, everyone is out of danger, but we are short on staff.

We just checked if anyone was available immediately, but since this time of year is packed with events, we are short by about four or five people.”

“What!? Can’t we do something about four or five people?”

It seems that Sayama-san’s group manager and some important person are having a discussion. I think this is the same person who apologized when there was an issue with Mogi-san before.

“We can somehow manage with logistics and transport, but we are struggling with staff for guidance and ticket checking. However, I will make sure to find them by today or tomorrow. We cannot afford to have issues that would cause the live event to be canceled!”

“Indeed. I’m counting on you. I will also reach out to my contacts, but whether we can find people within today or tomorrow is…”

“Um, Manager.”

“Ah, Mogi-san. I’m sorry for causing concern. I will definitely find the staff!”

“No, I believe high school students can fill those four to five positions, right? I might know some people in the next room.”

“R-Really!?”

Now that I think about it, when I was led to this room, my eyes met with Mogi-san’s for a moment, so he must know that we’re here. That means…

“So, due to this sudden situation, we are urgently looking for staff. If anyone has free time, would you be willing to work as a part-time staff member for two days starting the day after tomorrow?”

The manager, the important-looking person, Mogi-san, and Sayama-san have all entered the room. Right now, the manager is speaking.

“U-Um… what exactly would the job entail?”

“Yes, we are looking for people to check tickets at the live venue entrance, work at the merchandise booth, and guide attendees. The working hours are about seven hours per day, with a daily wage of 10,000 yen. Transportation, food, and accommodation will be provided.”

Oh, that’s a pretty good deal. That’s roughly 1,400 yen per hour. For a high school part-time job, that’s an excellent pay rate. Maybe they raised the hourly rate a little due to the urgency.

“Big bro, please say yes!”

“I’m really sorry for the sudden request. If you have time, please help us out!”

Mogi-san, Sayama-san, and the other adults are all bowing their heads to us high schoolers.

“Yukari, I’m fine with it. I’ll participate!”

“I’m in too!”

“I-I don’t know if I can do it well, but I’ll try.”

“I’ll join as well.”

If they’re all bowing their heads like this, there’s no way I can refuse. The only thing that changed was that instead of going somewhere with everyone, we’re now working together at a part-time job.

“Really!? Thank you so much!”

“Everyone, thank you!”

“Wow, this is a huge help. In that case, as a small token of appreciation, I’ll book an extra night at the accommodation. Since it’s summer break, you should all enjoy some time at the beach with your friends.”

“The beach!!”

And so, two days later, we are on a bus heading to the beach.

“Man, you guys really saved us!”

“It actually worked out for us too since we were planning to go to the mountains or the beach anyway. The pay is great, and we even get an extra night at the lodging—this is honestly a win.”

In the end, all of us decided to join as staff for Sayama-san’s live event. Now, we’re gathered at the station, riding a bus to the venue.

I also got my mother’s permission to work part-time and had her sign the contract. It was a sudden arrangement, but the manager personally called my mother to explain everything in detail, so I had no issues getting approval.

“The lodging is near the beach, and our meals are covered too. That’s a big help.”

“Right? Plus, after finishing the preparations for the next day, we’re free to do whatever we want. This is perfect.”

“Hehe, but it’s still a job. Let’s focus on working hard first.”

On this bus, aside from us, there are also other staff members and live event equipment. It seems the live performance members are on a separate bus.

Of course, Fūsuke has shrunk down and is coming with us. This week, Mamoru-san and the others are on an overseas trip, so even if there were an emergency, they wouldn’t be able to contact us. That’s why Fūsuke is coming along instead of staying behind.

Still, I never imagined that I would end up going to the beach, even if it’s for a part-time job. If it were back when I was overweight, I probably would’ve turned down any invitations to the mountains or the beach.

Hiking up a mountain was nothing short of torture for someone like me, who had no stamina. I would sweat excessively right away, and after climbing just a little, I’d already be out of breath and need a break.

More than anything, it was painful knowing that my slow pace would inconvenience everyone else climbing with me. I still remember how much trouble I caused my team during school events that involved mountain climbing.

As for the beach, well, that was an obvious no-go—I didn’t want anyone to see my stomach. I could swim despite being overweight, but there was no way I wanted to expose my flabby body, not even to my friends.

And yet, here I am now, heading to the beach. Not just that, but with girls from my class as well. This feels like a miracle. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve said this, but I need to thank the Grand Mage once again.
