Countermeasures Against a Stalker

Eastern Word Smith/Outdoor Shop in Another World: Opening in the Adventurers' Starting Town!/Chapter 109
Update:

Hey guys,
As most of you probably know by now Disqus has stopped providing services to many sites and our site is one of them. Right now, we are in the middle of developing our independent comment system. As of today(26 March 2025), we are releasing the comment with Limited features. There are other features still under development and may take some time to roll out.

As always, please continue to support us. You can show your support in the following ways:

“I’m glad Angel and Dolph seem to be able to work together without any issues.”

“Yeah, especially Dolph. I was worried at first, but it’s great that he’s gradually returning to his usual customer service style.”

It had been three days since Angel started working, and so far, there hadn’t been any major troubles. The shop was running smoothly. Dolph’s customer service was gradually becoming less focused on Angel. …At least, on the surface.

For now, the stalker targeting Angel hadn’t shown up at the outdoor shop. Just in case, I had asked Angel for a description of the stalker’s appearance and shared it with the employees, except for Dolph. They were instructed to discreetly signal if the stalker appeared in the store.

We couldn’t predict what the stalker might do, but we could keep an eye out or ask Lilia or Lange to stay near Angel for added safety.

“As long as Dolph is around, Angel should be safe during her commutes. Dolph is one of the strongest in this town, after all.”

Even though Dolph became a C-rank adventurer, he hadn’t moved to another town because Angel was in this starting town. As a result, his abilities were said to surpass those of a typical C-rank adventurer. He shouldn’t have trouble handling most troublemakers.

“That’s true. Hopefully, changing jobs and locations will make the stalker give up.”

We couldn’t let our guard down, though, since we didn’t know how persistent this stalker might be.

In the world I came from, there were some truly dangerous stalkers. At least for now, we needed to stay cautious.

“So, what’s the business with the Adventurer’s Guild today?”

After work, I was heading to the Adventurer’s Guild with Lilia, who was acting as a bodyguard.

“They said they wanted to discuss the bestiary. Maybe the monster bestiary I handed over last time has been completed.”

During today’s shift, we received a message from the Adventurer’s Guild asking me to drop by after the store closed. Since it was about the bestiary, it was likely that a copy of the master bestiary had been finished, just like with the maps.

“Mr. Tetsuya, I’m sorry to trouble you when you’re so busy.”

“Oh, Tetsuya! Sorry for calling you over after your shift.”

As usual, I was shown into the guild master’s office, where Guild Master Rizac and Deputy Guild Master Patrice were waiting.

“It’s no problem. We’ve hired another employee, so things are a bit easier now.”

With Angel joining the team, the workload for the rest of us had significantly lightened. Hiring Angel, who had customer service experience and was ready to contribute immediately, had been a big help.

Even though the mornings were still busy with a line of adventurers, the shop could only accommodate so many people at once, so it couldn’t be helped.

“I heard about that. Seems like a beautiful new employee joined your team.”

“The adventurers were talking about it too. Some were disappointed to hear she already has a boyfriend.”

…Wow. News traveled fast. There weren’t even tools like social media here, and yet the information spread at lightning speed.

“About that, I have something I’d like to consult you about. The woman in question is actually Dolph’s younger sister…”

With Angel’s permission, I decided to explain the situation to these two at the Adventurer’s Guild. They were already aware of Dolph’s extreme sister complex, so I figured it would be good to have their cooperation. …Mainly as a backup plan in case Dolph overreacted.

“I see, so that’s the situation…”

“What a scumbag. I’d love to take him down right now, but it’s hard for us at the Adventurer’s Guild or even the town guards to act without any actual harm being done.”

As expected, it seemed that without an actual incident, neither the Adventurer’s Guild nor the town guards could step in.

“Exactly. Dolph doesn’t know about the stalker, but the other employees have been informed. We should be able to protect his sister ourselves for now. That said, if something happens, we’d like to ask for the Adventurer’s Guild’s cooperation.”

This was mostly to ensure some leeway if things got out of hand. Lilia and Dolph were former adventurers, and Lange was still active, so there was a chance the guild could provide some support.

“Understood. If anything happens to a partner store, it’s only natural for the Adventurer’s Guild to step in. If there’s anything we can assist with, don’t hesitate to let us know.”

As expected of Patrice, he quickly grasped the situation. He probably also understood my underlying concerns.

“I don’t really get it, but if there’s anything I can do, just say the word!”

I’d prefer not to rely on Rizac. His strong sense of justice might lead him to join Dolph in beating the stalker to a pulp, which would be terrifying.

“Thank you. If anything happens, we’ll be sure to reach out.”

“Leave it to us.”

Lilia and I bowed our heads to Patrice and Rizac. If something came up, I wouldn’t hesitate to ask for their help.
