“Thank you very much!”
Bang
The second day of sales for the new product had come to an end.
“Whew, today was exhausting.”
“Yeah. I never thought we’d actually have even more customers than yesterday.”
Just as Lilia said, today saw even more customers than yesterday, which had been our busiest day ever.
Word of mouth truly is the main way information spreads in this world, and its speed is remarkable. Hearing about the stick-shaped ramen and nutritional food we started selling yesterday, many customers flocked to the shop today.
On top of that, people who couldn’t buy the new products yesterday because they sold out, as well as those wanting to try other flavors of the stick-shaped ramen, also came. From the morning, there was already a long line, and it seems like things will stay busy for a while.
“Tetsuya, thanks for earlier today. That really helped.”
“Same here, thanks for helping this morning. I didn’t expect things to escalate into a fistfight so quickly.”
“Neither of you did anything wrong, Dolph and Lange. The customers were the ones who got too heated. You both held back and didn’t retaliate, which was a great help. If you run into troublesome customers, don’t hesitate to call me right away.”
That said, there were several incidents today. With so many customers, some level of trouble is inevitable.
The first issue happened in the morning—a quarrel over who got in line first. I didn’t see how it started, but apparently, two customers began arguing over their place in line, which escalated into a fistfight.
Even Lange, who is usually calm, didn’t know how to handle it at first and called for help.
I had Lange step in to physically separate the fighting adventurers. Once they stopped moving, I told them that continuing their fight would result in them being banned from the shop and the guards being called. Hearing this quickly brought them back to their senses.
Since neither Lange nor I saw who was truly first in line, we had both customers come in together after the current patrons left. Thankfully, the new products weren’t sold out yet, so both were able to buy what they wanted and left satisfied. That was a relief.
“My issue was just giving the wrong change, but I didn’t expect the customer to get that angry about it.”
“Ah, that was probably someone looking to cause a fuss. In my world, we call them ‘complainers.’ If someone like that shows up, call me immediately.”
Dolph’s incident involved giving a customer less change than he was owed. Even though Dolph apologized and bowed as I taught him, the young male customer continued yelling in anger.
I stepped in, but the customer didn’t calm down and even went so far as to demand that we give him the product for free. Recognizing this as a case of a chronic complainer, I firmly apologized for the mistake but refused to comply with his unreasonable demand. In the end, I offered to refund his money if he didn’t want to purchase the product. Begrudgingly, he paid the correct amount and left, still angry.
I’ve made a mental note of his face. If he causes another disturbance, I won’t hesitate to ban him from the store. He may have even lied about the change being short.
“Still, Tetsuya, you’re remarkably calm when dealing with difficult customers. You handled that angry guy with such composure.”
“Tetsuya, you were amazing!”
Lilia and Fia praised me.
“...In my previous world, dealing with troublesome customers wasn’t uncommon.”
Though I didn’t work in retail, sales often involved dealing with problematic clients. It’s especially true in black companies. Unfortunately, my experience at a black company ended up being useful here...
“Oh, so even in your world, there were troublesome customers?”
“If anything, they were more common where I’m from. At least they didn’t carry weapons, which was a small mercy.”
In this world, customers often carry weapons, which is the scary part. But with Lilia and Dolph here—and Lange today too—I feel reassured. If I were alone and faced with someone brandishing a weapon, I might have caved to their demands.
“If any troublesome customers come, just make sure not to lay a hand on them from our side. Of course, if they try to get physical first, don’t hesitate to defend yourselves. Also, keep an eye out for Fia and me during any conflicts—we’re not equipped to fight.”
There aren’t many customers in this town stronger than Lilia or Dolph, though.
“This week will likely remain as busy as today, so we’ll probably face similar issues. But as long as we stay calm, we’ll handle it just fine.”
It seems this week will be hectic, but with everyone’s help, we’ll manage. I’m really grateful Lange is here this week.
